if it is a shareware program that requires payment to turn full, yea, pay the fee to make it work.
any other method is illegal. be sure you read the DMCA of 1998 & the The 'No Electronic Theft' Act 1992

read the forums faqs here

If it is an older app, no longer developed then it most likely wont connect to the servers H323 Gatway, if they even still have a valid working online gateway, since the gateway will no longer be active. Therefore you can not connect to make phone calls, If you can replace the Gateway to a valid H323 gateway, then you could once again make PC to Telephone calls.

you might want to look into newer VoIP software titles,

from the people who brought you KaZaA
http://www.skype.com/
Robertson, founder of Lindows and MP3.com has just released the SIPhone, for free internet calling around the world - and Kazaa's founders have countered with Skype, designed to do the same. The good news: our reviewers found both products work nearly as well as regular phones Read more > (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1356384,00.asp) doesnt look like it will be so good for goslow though :(

It appears, that both those technologys still require the end user to also been using the same software, does not yet do PC to Phone calls yet.
as far as Robertson's free SIPhone, i would not count on it to remain free long after it begins to be used, let alone, i doubt he even created the software himself, or his company even coded a single line, other than the Copyright notice. Just as he claims to have created a new OS, which he did not, he took code form the Debian Linux, and acts if his company created something NEW. The fact he has yet to produce FREE Source code to the OS, which is in violation of GPL, shows how "creative" and weasle he is.
I like the Click N Run software his Lindows charges users for software that is freely available everywhere on the Net. As far as Lindows running Windows apps, why? thats rather defeating the purpose of using an alternate OS. and to promote his OS as running windows apps, any GNU/Linux distro can do just the same with the WINE librarys.

makes me wonder about his SIPhone, is probably a rip from GnomeMeeting's progress. or the H323 community.

as far as using those 2 apps, you might be better served using something such as SpeekFreely or Picophone, or older versions of Qtalk, which i still use today to do Pc to PC voice communications.
