Hey guys, I'm curious: What file sharing program is best? I used to use Kazaa, but then my computer crashed. I tried redownloading it, but it wouldn't install. So I downloaded Morpheus. It's pretty good, but it's slow. Then my friend told me about this site. So what's the best program to use?
- Kazaa
- Morpheus
- LimeWire
- etc.
Please reply. I'm probably going to go with Kazaa Lite, because there's no spyware.

One other thing you may want to check out:

Soulseek.

Soulseek is another P2P program that allows you to do more of the same that KaZaA and friends do, but I find the organizational and community bonuses very worthwhile.

For one, you're able to browse other users files very easily. While browsing, if you want to download an album, all you need to do is right-click on a folder and download it. The music hits your transfer list and at the end of the day the folder and it's contained files are on your hard drive, making downloading albums and sets of items a breeze to do and a breeze to catalog.

The buddy list features are sweet as well, allowing you to reward users who share with you and ban those who try to leech.

The community of people using soulseek spans the entire world, and there are serious, serious music geeks on there to cater to even the most whimsical music tastes. On a good day I can find Noam Chomsky AudioBooks, Entire Seasons of Saved By the Bell, and 50's Doo Wop that never made it past an LP - and all of it at a decent speed and with little or no fuss.

As a footnote, the program began based on an IDM and Downtempo techno newslist, and a large chunk of the user base of soulseek is for Techno lovers. If you're into the beats, don't sleep on Soulseek.

Shareaza and kazaa lite

shareaza handles gnutella 1 and 2 , edonkey and bittorent files , with sharelive.com it kicks complete booty ...

kazaa lite is and should always be downloaded instead of plain kazaa which has loads of spyware and junk added ...

Thats offtopic by the way!
This is a shareware & Freeware site, not a warez site.
if you like the software, purchase it.
Else find something in the freeware section if you cant/won't pay for the software.

:D Wonder why I have not seen IMesh mentioned. It is faster than KazaA, for me, and has a very good selection in music. It also does not burn me up with pop-ups. I started using this about a week ago, when KazaA was causing system glitches for me.

WinMX

WinMX is best, I started using that after Napster shut down I think it was. I would say WinMX is best as you get way more search results for the stuff you are looking for. It's not that much of a good looking program but it's still really good. Very underated in my opinion. I know someone who still uses the the very first napster but on a dif network.

??????????????? please clarify exactly what your needing, if your wanting a repeat of a p2p forum link , its unnecessary, try looking through recent kazaa threads as i believe that is where the links to these forums were posted, if you found it on this site it is still here unless it was information that was inappropriate or illegal, try searching the forums here as your post is not extremely clear

I understand why the website cannot make older versions of KaZaA and KaZaA Lite available right now. However, I was wondering if perhaps one of you non-website affiliated users could send me an old version of KaZaA Lite that you might have laying around. Perhaps send it through AOL Instant Messenger or e-mail? If anyone could help that'd be great.

I'll reply to my own question no more than 10 minutes later by saying. Search for KaZaA Lite on eMule or eDonkey2000 and you'll find plenty of downloads for old versions of KaZaA.

I dont know much about p2p networks but i have used a lot and kazaa lite was my favorite. I miss it. Napster was cool, early kazaa's were cool and so was winmx, but they couldent match kezaa lite k++. Does anyone know some similar programs to kazaa lite (not winmx or pay p2p's)?

Just what this board needs, another p2p program.
This might have been better placed in the TRASH.
If you've guessed that having p2ps shoved at me by people who think STEALING music is OK annoys me you are sadly mistaken.

IT PEEVES ME OFF TO NO END!

Perhaps after stealing a few dozen songs you could find a baby to steal candy from or a dog to kick down the street.

ignore the trolls my friend, these dishonest freaks do not know any better, eventually they will move on from downloading copyright stuff and move on to shoplifting etc until they end up in custody. sad really isnt it . all p2p users should be made to use p2p forums and not sites such as this, its unfair on people who do not agree with these programs and do not particulrly like having it rammed in their face day after day, perhaps they would see this if others, visited their p2p forums and kept adding threads about email programs and photo editing apps,

the best possible way to sort out a problem with a p2p program is to go to a p2p forum , try typing filesharing forums into google or your search engine which ever you use , or type p2p forums , such sites members are dedicated users of these programs and therefore more informed on their usage , problems etc .

I would also add.
Just because someone here recommends an app, does not mean they developed it.
Hint, always look on the developers site of the app your experiencing a problem with for any possible known bug issues. OR, trying reading the FAQ on the developers site.
Especially for something like "How do I run this program?" Since thats such as first step it would have to be covered on the developers sites, else, no one would know how to use their apps.

What are the benefits? Read those on the Bit Torrent site. If you have the apps installed then you know where to look.

Then, if your still having problems, look on a dedicated forum for that particular type of program. As the guest poster has already stated. Sure, someone here might be able to give ya a pointer or 2, but thats not what this forum is about, it might get peppered now and then with someone who has used bit torrent, but you'll find more people with more hands-on at a p2pforum. This site is Oldversion, which means what people will discuss are older programs.

the best file sharing program i have found to be the best, was not even mentioned. Filetopia

http://www.filetopia.org

it's a freeware file sharing program with a chat feature and chatrooms, friends list, and search feature. This program is much better than kazaa because it doesn't go crazy with ads! (filetopia is not adware)
and much better than WinMX because it's much faster. I Suggest you all consider this program, give it a try. Kazaa is slowly dying (it's very seldom now that i see more than 85 000 users on kazaa now, and for kazaa that is a low count). Less every night, Filetopia is slowing building their clientelle. i suggest you give it a try.

[FONT=Arial] I say LimeWire is the best one. Its fast and reliable. And it does one thing the others dont (or so i know) as a song or file is downloading it tells you that the file is corrupt and gives you the option to continue downloading it or just to stop before it saves itself to your computer. So my opinion is get LimeWire. Something not to get is Kazaa or Kazaa Lite. I always get corupted songs as in when im playing it it starts screaching or gets staticky which is so annoying and it also seems their download are sooooo slow. So Good Luck with your choice! I say go with Lime Wire!

for further advice on filesharing programs try www.p2p.com this is not a filesharing forum and the continual spamming of it is getting rather boring, most members do not use them neither are they very interested in the subject either, continually spamming this site will not convert it to a p2p forum it will just bore people and perhaps force the closing of threads on such programs, others who seek help on the subject as JAIMES ANDRES has already stated have to wade through heaps of garbage already and most perhaps give up before finding an answer to their problem due to the large amount of babble about different programs, a program which one thinks is great may seem rubbish to another, nobody seems to realise that in filesharing programs your internet connection makes a great deal of difference also your location and ultimately what you are downloading as well, if you wish to know about a particular program check the developers website for specification and details or ask at a dedicated filesharing site as already stated

Answers for some p2p questions.

I've noticed that the program names change and the versions but no matter the p2p the questions are all the same:

Q: There are millions of users but I only see a few 100 thousand. Why?

A1: A lot of new versions limit the past versions that can share files with them. So, if you are running vG it might not share files with vA thru vD but will share with vE thru vG. Why? To encourage using the latest update. (This limiting also applies to hacked versions to rid it of ads and spyware IE Kazaa-Lite)

A2: Not every user is going to leave their computer online and hooked to the network for your leeching pleasure.

Q: I request a song but all it says is "Querying" How do I make it give me my song?

A: Long and short, WAIT. Querying means it is asking for permission to download. When you ask for this permission you are assigned a number. If your number is 10 you'll get the song after the 9 ahead of you get the song first or drop out of the query.

NOTE: Dropping out of the query and returning later puts you at the back of the line where you might now be 50 instead of 10

Q: My older version doesn't seem to work as well anymore. Why?

A: A lot of new versions limit the past versions that can share files with them. So, if you are running vG it might not share files with vA thru vD but will share with vE thru vG. Why? To encourage using the latest update. So after so many upgrade your version isn't a part of their network.

Q: My program is doing this or that. Why?

A: We are NOT the devoloper. We did NOT write the code. Just because we located an older version for you does NOT mean we actually run that program ourselves. Nor are most of us willing to install it just to trouble-shoot for you. Try a p2p forum like http://www.p2p-zone.com or do your own search on the internet for p2p forum

SOLUTION: Check the devoloper's site for thier FAQs. Chances are they've dealt with this problem before. If not, drop them a line detailing the problem. Bugs can't get fixed without the devoloper knowing about them.

Q: I get all those songs that are corrupt, is there a way of filtering out these songs?

A: Try http://www.mp3shield.com

Reason for editing: Turns out that the http://www.p2p.com scattared across this forum ISN'T a p2p forum. It is the home of Port 2 Print, an online graphic communications provider.

Q1: Which p2p program would YOU recomend(sp)?

Q2: Where else can i find out more about the best p2p programs other than p2p forums?

Q3: Where can i find out if a p2p program tracks what people download like KaZaa used to keep track of?

I don't use p2p programs so have no suggestions for you. I gave up on p2p programs after the original Napster.

LF has listed a lot of different p2p Apps on page 1 of this topic.

Q2: Where else can i find out more about the best p2p programs other than p2p forums?
This question I don't know how to answer, as shown in this posting everyone has an opinion. So for both Q2 & Q3 I'd have to say, Trial and Error. Go to page 1 of this post, pick out an App and give it a try. See what program works best for you and if it has the features you want like tracking what people download

i've tried everything, soulseek is definitely the best for music
their selection is HUGE, and you can find FULL ALBUM sources of everything you want, as opposed to having to assemble a full album yourself
even a shitload of indie, there are that many users

for downloading software, i use kazaa and an anti-virus

another good idea for this forum would be to have a new section for this type of topic, the forum shuld have all the sections it does have ie programs , requests etc and another one called THE SADDO FILESHARERS SECTION, that way all the other regular and registered members dont have to put up with the garbage, and all the saddoes can have their own little rubbish heap and wallow in their own crap

Hello OldVersion!
I'm writing this topic because I want to give you a suggestion to the site, and, to inform all the people that read it about this amazing program.
Warez P2P Client is the next biggest peer-to-peer application to hit the internet, labelled the next Kazaa. Warez P2P is now a completely spyware and adware free file-sharing program with a great easy-to-use interface. Search and download your favorite music and video files shared by other users on the free peer-to-peer network. Warez P2P Client's advanced queuing system and multi-sourced swarmed downloads allow you to download whatever you want in the shortest possible time. Warez P2P Client really enhances your file-sharing experience, and has a built-in audio/video player with full playlist support.
Warez P2P Client is out by a very little time, and it' s already at about 800.000 users, this is really the best p2p program since Kazaa.
I think that OldVersion should start organizing them selves to put the old versions of this wonderful application.

Link to download it: removed

Sorry that this is another P2P discussion, I have just been wondering this for awhile. Okay, Lately I have been wondering something. These "free" p2p programs that you have listed on the site, I was wondering if they contain spyware, So I researched people's reviews and for pratically all of the programs, People said they contained viruses/spyware/malware/adware/WHATEVER. So I want to get this straight, Which of these programs REALLY DO have these infections?

Yes, I know that most of the time these free p2p programs are just a ripoff and junk filled full of spyware, Though I am just wondering.

So tell me, If you can, Which of the following programs have these types of infections, CuteMX, DC++, LimeWire, Morpheus, Scour Exchange, WinMX, And now some programs that you may or may not be familiar with that are not on this website, Warez P2P, E-mule, E-donkey (Or whatever they are.), Shareaza, Soul Seek, Ares, Ares Lite(Or "Ares Galaxy and Ares Galaxy Lite or whatever.)

And when I mean does it have spyware, I mean does the program ITSELF have spyware.

Yes I am sorry it is such a long list but I am just wondering. Thanks.

JAIME ANDRES is 100% correct and i stand with him on this , simple research such as this could be done by a 6 year old child. members havent the time or the interest in filesharing apps. many of the p2p threads have links for p2p sites who would most likely welcome your request for this info. always the best way for help is ask a dedicated site on that subject.

OpenNap: Open Source Napster Server extends the Napster protocol to allow sharing of any media type, and the ability to link servers together.

OpenNap-NG

er... these are servers. NOT CLIENTS.

can you list them seperately please.

Also.. Slavanap: http://www.slavanap.org is a server with a nice pretty gui. I am actually working on a gui for the set up of an opennap server myself, as many people find text based configuration difficult.

Thank you.

btw if any of you are interested in running p2p servers please do enquire on the slavanap forums (the most active out of the lot) and we'll be glad to help you out.

Best file sharing program ever = LimeWire no doubt.
I find more rare music files than I'm not even looking for than ones I am. The only 2 problems I've had with it are : (1) Some corrupted files every now and then but that's it. (At least it tells you which ones are corrupted unlike Kazaa Lite). and (2) I found out that LimeWire is spyware through Yahoo Anti Spy(http://toolbar.yahoo.com/config/slv4_done?.act=3&.dflt=1&.intl=us&.region=us&.partner=none&.guest=none&.cpdl=&.mf1=as)...but that doesn't really bother me...

Is it any better other than the minor GUI changes ?
Another point you may have mentioned is that the latest Java jre runtime environment needed to run Limewire is now available for download at the Sun Java website http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/runtime.html
This will improve stability problems that affect all versions of Limewire.

One more vote for shareaza. No adware, covers 3 networks (but it gets slow when connecting to all 3).
As usual, if you want to be comfy, you need some adjustments to the configuration, but it works right out of install.

its NOT this site buddy, if imesh has spyware it has it wherever you download it from, common knowledge should let you know that a large majority of p2p apps contain spyware adware or some kind of rubbish , that is why most reccomend filesharers visit a dedicated filesharing site such as www.p2pzone.com where they have all the experience and knowledge of these programs

Great forum and site guys! As far as p2p's go they all have +'s and -'s. I have useded them all. Each program needs to be tweaked. Dont assume that default settings are best. I use Limewire Pro which contains no adware and has a feature that checks a file before download to determine if file is corrupt. Just my 2 cents worth.

considering the amount of illegal activity on filesharing networks such as porn images of children constant sharing of copyrighted works such as music cds and new release video titles i do not really believe there is such a thing as a good filesharing network personally i believe networks that carry porn images of children and teens are a pretty sick thing to be a part of and raises the question of what type of people filesharers are ok not all download these and i would not say all filesharers are the same but from a personal point of view i would not want people thinking i was a part of that type of thing in any way as well as that if filesharing was stopped then the artists would earn more from sales and ultimately in the end slow the speed of price increases a little for those of us that are honest and buy the things we want instead of sponging them from the www remember this when the RIAA come round for tea one night

Theres a BIG difference between the old kazaa lite and these so called "new versions" or latest ones

New to this site! Unfortunately, there seems to be those that like to "disagree" in haste, rather than add a responsible reason for why they disagree, for others to ponder and make an informed decision.

Now, I've tried several P2P programs, with Napster (first version) and WinMX being the main two I used. Now, with a new computer that has had everything cleaned/deleted, I'm ready to go on trying to find the best P2P program, and it seems Kazza Lite keeps coming up. Now I read that its either hard to find, or impossible to find?

So, IS there still a good P2P program out there, without advertising....for the masses, that is readily available?

I still buy CD's, but like to download the odd single song, when (in my opinion) a specific CD only has one song I like. I don't like paying for the other 10 songs, when I only want the one, thus a P2P program can hopefully do this for me.

Thanks in advance!

P2000

YES there is more than one. all you have to do is spend a little of YOUR time reading through the filesharing threads tp find them there are many listed. this may seem a mamoth task but its down to filesharers that there are so many threads and garbage on the subject they seem to just keep on repeating themselves just to keep the topic alive instead of reading through existing threads.

I personally have used WinMX, Morpheus and Napster in the past, which both have worked well, but didn't care for the adware and pop ups that came with a couple of them. I've now got a newer computer, and have not downloaded a P2P program yet, but thought that by asking those that use them more regularly than we do, as to their safety, (hopefully) lack of adware etc.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

firstly dale welcome to OV , regulars here for the most part dont use p2p stuff and really dont bother helping with it as they are not really interested either, this is mainly because there has been so much spamming on the subject resulting in the heaps of threads on the subject and the closing of many as well. nearly all posts on the subject have been made by guest posters, nothing wrong with guests i was one for ages before i registered but it can lead to much ranting on the subject which is totally unnecessary.the best advice for p2p which has been repeated over many times and here it is again for the benefit of all is try a dedicated p2p site such as www.p2pzone.com who deal with these programs and nothing else so are far more genned up on the subject, also consider the legal side of file sharing before using these programs as many people are being sued for sharing copyright material .

www.shareaza.com has Gnutella1, gnutella2, bittorrent and edonkey protocols. No spyware, no ads, no bulls**t. Oh, and so are all the old versions. If you don't like it you can download the source and tweak it yourself even. Mine won't let anyone download .wma files, get an mp3 dang it!

-Bittorent for movies, tv shows, etc, because it is generally faster than other p2p programs. Private trackers are especially fast. Unfortunately, the music selection is extremely thin.

-Soulseek is the best for music. It's a relatively small network, but they have lots of rare files. It also has a "wishlist" feature, which will continually search for a file everytime you log on.

-Direct Connect if I can't find something on Bittorrent or Soulseek. I don't like the GUI, but they do have a lot of rare files.

petty bunch aint ya from a non p2p view they all suck why haggle with each other one mans meat is another mans poison but all p2p is poison to the music industry and film industry yet used properly it is a fantastic resource, just a shame that people seem to thrive on the illegal aspect of such programs.

Yeah, like how Napster got so popular!

But now the only P2P program is WinMX, and there isn't enough content.

mirc is the best mirc is a chat client that you can download stuff from
you can search for files at packetnews.com u will have to
configure a couple of things in the options first
mirc is much better than all the crappy programs here
the only other one i use is bittorrent (bitornado)
all the others are a waste of space !!!
