I was wondering if any of the MP3 programs listed on oldversion.com are "legal", or if anyone knows some that are. Thanks! :)

What programs are you referring to? encoders? players? harvesters? tag-editors?
are you referring to the downloading of mp3s or the creation of mp3's?

EAC, Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) Cardware, Low cost registration (just a postcard and a stamp.) Has CDDB support, will help you to copy (extract) audio tracks, or even parts of them, to the harddisk. EAC features some special read modes, known as "Secure Modes". Using these secure modes, every sector read will be doublechecked and reread or corrected if necessary.
dBpowerAMP (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/) FREEWARE & Shareware, Provides many tools, from Rippers, Writers, Converters and Players.

CDex is good to, if you want accurate DAE, vs speed, then EAC is still well ontop of all others.

has the best quality sound ive ever heard. [/quote] Not sure what DAE has to do with audio quality, if the rip is accurate, it will sound exactly like the CD does, no change occurs when you performa a DAE, if there is accuracy, When you get errors, you will end up with pops & other noises. which happens alot of the times when the extraction is performed at too high a speed.
Or are you referring to the end output? the encoded file?
Since i do not use Cdex any longer, or rem much on its settings, i am not sure if the encoders are external or internal. One of the benefits to EAC is that it uses external encoders, which allow the user to opt which preferred encoder they wish to use, such as in the case of mp3, one can use a stable lame codec or a current beta version.
Those apps which opt to use internal codecs suffer from the out of date problem, where by the time you use their app, their encoders are already several versions behind the encoders releases, especially if you like to use better other encoders, such as AAC, Ogg, MPC, which can be updated in cvs nightly, and if you like to build your own encoders binaries from source, you have this option still available when using EAC, which relies on external codecs.
I know that when i had been demo'ing out dBpowerAmp for a while, their ogg encoder was outdated by many months, even though there were major updates in cvs. And it also lacked the ability to specify a ogg stream number, which helps in keeping streams seperate while in an album or streaming.

With Kazaa Lite RIAA can't browse your files and it can't sue you. It's not relly legal but it's safe. If you want to download it visit this topic (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=1811&s)

Again, this is unecessary posting, your stating it is not legal, but if you re-read the original request, the user is asking for legal mp3 products, so why would you drop one and say it is not legal?

Ok, locust. Sorry once again. I've found a legal file sharing program that connects to the FastTrack Network. It's name is Grokster and you can download it from this site:

The link you added for a p2p app would be better posted under a thread pertaining to p2p apps, such as this thread, which i have included a dozen or so alternatives to kazaa & others. http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?a...&st=0#entry5206 (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=1530&st=0#entry5206)

With this post, the user never mentions which sort of mp3 program they are refering to, so as you can tell, i have posted links to mp3 apps.
the links posted in the thread for EAC, CDex, and dBpowerAmp are not P2p clients. they are used for encoding, recording and decoding music.
kazza/grokster are not what I would consider "mp3 apps", they do permit one to find mp3s on their program, but they also are used to find many kinds of programs as well, and are not limited to mp3's.
