Yes, MS has decided to offer support for Win98, due to GNU/LINUX being an attractive offer to alot of people in businesses, since the cost is cheaper, and support contracts are handled by many companys.
Recently alot of governments have been making the switch or considering the switch to GNU/LINUX.
So this is prompting MS to once again, look at how they view their old software catalog, and begin to figure out ways to keep customers from leaving.

That is good that there will be extended support for Windows 98, and ME. I am also still using Windows 98.
