There are a couple threads dealing with the same topic already started.
If you want to record your Lp's to the computer, are you wanting to do this so you can just get them on the pc to listen to? this will require alot of disk space for many songs, as the average song was roughly alittle over 3 minutes on most Lp's. and for each minutes it requires about 10 megs of disk space, 60 minutes would be 600megs. So you can be eating into alot of your hard drive with just a few albums.
If your wanting to put them onto CD's, do you also have a cd burner and software?
Do you want to compress the music into a much more portable format, which can also be placed on a CD (as data not music) and then you can stuff well over 100 songs per CD. Draw back is that you current CD players wont be able to play them unless they support the compressed format. An then there is only 2 formats most of these multi/format CD players can handle, which 1 being mp3 and the other being wma (windows media audio).

But getting the music into the PC can be simple to using whats already on your PC, which should be the microsoft default Sound Recorder. to something thats much more advanced, such as Dart Pro, or recently added to the links, wavepurity.

Rem if your using a turntable that is a seperate deck/component, it will generally use a magnetic cartridge, as the 1 piece stereos used a ceramic one, what does this mean, is to record on certain turntables (magnetic carts) will require the addition of a pre-amp to get the signal high enough so your sound card can pick up and record. The higher the signal the better initially the recording will be, plus the higher the signal the lower the noise (hopefully).

Dart Pro (http://www.dartpro.com/products/Dart_XP.asp) (Shareware) Not the cheapest at $99, but does specialize in digital audio transfers & Restoration from 33's, 45's even 78's and anything else, you can give this software a trial run.
Wavepurity (http://www.difitec.com/wavepurity/homepage/usa/frame.htm) (Shareware) Professional Audio Restoration for old Vinyl Records and Music Tapes.
LP Ripper (http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lpripper/lpripper.htm) (Shareware)

You can look on these threads for some apps which may fit your needs.

I prefer, for audio restoration as well as getting songs from the LPs into computer, this program, called Pristine Alien Connections (http://www.alienconnections.com/products.htm), as one of the best features is has its ability for you to place markers between songs. This way you can record the whole side of an LP, and you can place a mark during the breaks, then when you go back to edit those into seperate track - if desired, you can easily pinpoint where each track begins/ends. It is shareware, but worth a test run and possible purchase.
