Payne Consulting once offered their utility, Metadata Assistant, as freeware. The new version (1.61) is no longer free. Where can I find a copy of the old, free version?

Program Name: Metadata Assistant for Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Website: http://www.payneconsulting.com
Current version: 1.61
Desired versions: Unknown (1.0?)
Description: A utility to remove hidden metadata from M/S Office files

Have not found an older version yet. Did find another similar Shareware title.
Workshare Protect (http://www.workshare.com/products/pr_W3protect_overview.htm) (SHAREWARE)
Workshare Protect automatically identifies and removes sensitive document metadata upon emailing Microsoft Office documents, without any user intervention or training.
ezClean (http://www.kklsoftware.com/products/ezClean/overview.asp) (SHAREWARE)
Eliminates “metadata” so recipients and third parties can’t see what was changed, deleted, or commented on, or who worked on the document in the process of creating the “final” version.

Howto Remove Metadata and Unique Identifiers From Office 97 Documents (on Microsofts webpage). (http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HA010450631033&CTT=6&Origin=EC010553071033) On Microsoft Office Online you can download and use for free two tools that will help you remove the identifier from previously created documents and prevent the creation of the identifier for future documents. The Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Patch will prevent the insertion of a unique identifier into any new Office 97 documents.

I will submit Meta data Assistant V1.02 to oldversion.com

B.T.W. Beware maybe one reason it’s free is because they can’t guarantee that everything will be stripped out.But can they with a paid version !!! anyway its freeware :)

If Microsoft's tools do the job, and they are free, then might as well use those ones. The program the people build, are most likely built on these free SDK's (Software Development Kit) from Microsoft. So they probably just get the free SDK from Microsoft, build a little GUI around it in 4 seconds then sell it.
One other option might just be to use a hex editor on the document and edit that metadata out of it.
