What would be the purpose? DirectX is usually the newer the better, no? Or am I missing something?

Hi, i'm not the person who requested DirectX I do not see a reason for you to have it because you can ealy find older versions just by searchig in google.com

But to answer your question why would people need a older version of directx? it's because the newer the DirectX the more incompatible it becomes with older hardware. I downloaded DirectX 8.1 only to find that Direct3D would not work anymore because my video card was to old. The list can go on and on of problems you might have due to having older hardware.

DirectX9 has now been released

Right, but it "should" be able to use the newer versions without problem.

Check the archives, past posting and you would find an answer there, just dont post a request without attempting to search first, since the answer is in the archive. With links directly to the files. This would have saved you from waiting for a reply.

Wow!! that was a pretty darn quick reply!!! But why doesn't someone upload it here on Oldversion.com? I do see that it's oddly larger than v6.0, though.

Microsoft has a tendency of adding and removing features, plus re-organizing code and changing the installer can lead to differences in filesizes.
I can't say why its' not been added to the main site.

OK, I gotcha. When I understand how to submit a file, would it be alright if I were to upload it?

locustfurnace

Since the board now has a link for v5, I think if the admins wanted to add the file they could easier then it would take for you to email it. This would save you from spending time uploading the file. Plus simply uploading a file does not add it to the available downloads. They need to be added by the admins.
I won't say not to upload it, but the link is available for them as well if they chose to add it. That's your choice if you want to.
E-mailing files is good for when the file is on a local machine and not available to link to, then it works well when you submit it to the site.

Well, I just those admins decide to upload it within the next few days, otherwise, I'll send it.

I found a pretty rare version 5.2 of DirectX that's reasonably small (3.49 megs) (http://w3.arizona.edu/~arg/arena/dx52eng.exe) I suppose it's v5.2, although, the installer seems to say "DirectX 5." I guess since the mod stated that it's easier for the admins to upload files as a link, this should suffice.

Old Version does have some older versions of Directx 6.0, 7.0, 8.0a, 8.1, 9.0a on their main page.

Reading How To Request an App (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=1585) would have told you to do a search and if the version you seek hasn't been requested just add your request to an older post for a the program of the same name.

Directx 3.0a (ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/demos/pc/dirx3a.exe)

firstly you should always follow the pinned topic HOW TO REQUEST AN APP at the top of this forum and always do a search before posting incase the title has been requested and answered before in which case it has, http://www.oldversion.com/talk/archive/index.php?t-1776.html in this thread there is this link http://w3.arizona.edu/~arg/arena/dx52eng.exe which is still functional but i havent verified it. searching before posting almost always finds an answer to most questions/requests without you having to wait and saves having multiple threads on the same subject.

I'd like to get hold of DirectX 1.0, perhaps the SDK that came with it, perhaps even earlier versions? Why? Well, just for novelty value, really. :-) I heard there's a weird clown demo that came with it. Anyone know how I can get it?
