i recently baught a cd burner and aquired a full version of roxio easy cd creater 5.
i often get error messages when using cd-r s
the error messages are

E80041882: CD error - power calibration area error - [03/73/03]
E80041899: Write error - buffer underrun occurred - [06/C5/00]
E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]

i have successfully burned using the exact same brand of disk and cd-wr drive and software
i also have the same problem with older cd-rw disk, but new one's work fine

the directCD feature only works on occasion as well

Check with the manufacturer on what blanks the drive supports. Not all blank media works with all hardware. I have seen the power calibration error on blanks my drives did not support. Since I have gone through 3 different drives, I've had to shuffle around the blanks I used to different ones when buying a new drive.
If the older CD recorder worked fine with the blanks, and you got a new drive, and it no longer burns to those disks, it could be that the CD-rw's were slow 1-4x speed medium, and the new drive is a HighSpeed CD-rw. Which requires capable blanks.
My 2x blank CD-rw's worked fine in my 2x drive, but never worked in my 10x or 24x CD-RW drives.
Buy some supported media, and see if that solves your problem
