Have you opened Windows Explorer, and traversed the directory to the folder locations of the app you wish to run, and clicked on the exe file?
Your shortcuts might be messed up, and the only way you can run any apps would be directly clicking on the programs exe file.
You could then navigate to your spyhunter folder, and see if running it's binary works this way inplace of clicking on its desktop shorcut.
You could do a re-association for each file, this might take a long time though.
Open Windows Explorer, then click TOOLS, Folder Options, File Types. You can now see what each file is associated with. You can edit the programs which open which programs.
Its also possible you have a worm on the system, which has re assigned all shortcuts to the KMD. But I am not certain on this, never heard of that worm, but I've seen some worms which do mess with the shortcuts.

Did you get the recovery CD with the laptop? Maybe you will want to do a reinstallation of the OS.

I suggest you scan the machine for viruses and spyware.

If you have problems finding and eliminating the culprit, make a post at http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/
They have some experts who are willing to help.
If it's something new, they want to know about it.

just see and let this be a lesson for using kazaalite to get win dvd instead of paying for the app and going through the correct channels to get it. if you didnt get the master disc with the laptop and reinstalling is your only option then you may have trouble with drivers and such when you reinstall windows.any way try right clicking on your desktop shortcuts and select properties then on the shortcut tab just check what the target is i should say as LF has stated this program either had virus or something in it that has messed up your laptop. one of the pitfalls that goes with p2p and file sharing. do you by any chance have system restore on the laptop this would perhaps give you another option.

sincerely not a telling off my friend just a friendly pointer, KL gets so much praise and attention all over the internet yet no one seems to mention the risks of using this app. everyone to there own its just a shame that those who claim to know so much about KL only tell the good points and not the bad, it was good to use but because of so much misuse its now virus ridden and bombarded with dud files. if you prefer free software post a request there is nearly always a freeware title out there somewhere that people will find for you.

A Previous thread (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=1530&hl=torrent) with other p2p apps, some are just as good or better than Kazaa. Bit Torrent is even a better file sharing app over typical p2p apps such as kazaa.
Bit Torrent FAQ and Guide. (http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/#what)

"BitTorrent is designed to work better as the number of people interested in a certain file increases, in contrast to other file transfer protocols."
So actually the more people use Bit Torrent, the better your chances are and the faster your downloads will become. The more downloaders there are, the more available bandwidth there is.
