I used to have the old version of Kazaa, it worked fine...until I received a virus and ended up having to reinstall windows on my computer! Now, I have the new Kazaa K2 - and I can't watch movies anymore (I am using real player and quicktime for codec), can someone please tell me if this is a problem or am I missing a step?

Go here. (http://www.oldversion.com) Then click on Kazaa. Download a oldversion you would like.

Also, Kazaa uses spyware. OldVersion.com reccomends for you to install [/url] that does not use spyware.

If you had to reinstall Windows, you lost all of your old programs. Usually when you download movies off Kazaa (or any other P2P service), they are encoded using a DivX codec. You can download the codec at:
http://www.divx.com/divx/ (I recommend selecting the most basic of the three choices)

On a side note, version 2 of Kazaa comes with its own virus scanner in order to prevent situations like yours.

Hope this helps.

Yes, get Kazaa lite, it is faster and better.

I also recommend spending the money on and antivirus program like Norton antivirus if you like to download a lot of programs. I wonder though: Can a virus be executed by loading an infected MP3. (I doubt this, but I just want to make sure)

no need to buy an anti-virus, get one for free

http://www.f-prot.com/download/download_fpdos.html

its a DOS version, dated may 2003.
dont always need a windows version just to scan a file.

The Virii question.

"MP3 Files can Cause Code Execution under Winamp", read here.

Just as I suspected, you cannot be infected if you don't already have the virus, but virus code can be implanted into jpeg and mp3 files...but that would only mess them up really. I feel sorry for those WinAmp users, he he. Good thing I have Wingroov.

foobar2000 is an excellent player for windows.
but CLI players such as ogg123 and mpg123 work much better, i feel.
much more control over playback, and ya dont need a playlist when ya can easily do a
#ogg123 -d esd -b128 - b64 Sl*.ogg

which would play all songs whose filenames start with an Sl.

no fancy visuals, but who needs em.

Because Kazaa just wants Windows Media Player 6 or above to play the movies.
