Windows Messenger will NOT work with older Windows versions. I tried to install Windows Messenger 4.7 on my Windows Me, figuring it would work, but it didn't. I got a message saying, "Windows Messenger 4.7 is not compatible for your OS...".

Windows Messenger 4.0 is the default messenger installed by Windows XP. This might help you with this install if you have an XP CD:

No luck finding the full install yet.

I don't think I have one, since I think Windows XP was preinstalled on my computer. (That has no XP Service Pack.)

Program Name: Windows Messenger
Website: www.microsoft.com
Current version: 5.1.0700
Desired versions: 5.1.0680 (May 13, 2005)
Description: Windows Messenger, not MSN Messenger!

Can't find this anywhere, all Google links point back to microsoft.com which only offers the latest version. Any help much appreciated!
