Bravenet, geocities, tripod are all FREE hosts. None will be better than others. Someone might know of better ones, but these are the more well known ones.

It is XHTML, this is NEW, 'Extensible Hypertext Markup Language' - A reformulation of HTML 4.0 in XML 1.0. XML is really not more difficult to create, but it demands more attention to closing tags and does not work with web browsers with first parsing the data.

No FREE host will permit you to post music on the site, even if it is your own creation. Since everyone is now considered guilty of posting copyrighted materials whether or not you actually have.

If you want to have a php forum or a mysql database, check out:

Music?
You may get away with midi or wav, but you're not going to find a free host that will risk the WRATH OF RIAA by allowing anything more sophisticated.

Xhtml is not standard html.
HTML, XML are subsets of SGML. They consists of just a small fraction of what SGML makes up.
In HTML you can leave tags open, pages will still render.
If you leave tags open in XML, your parser will spit out an error.
You can make text documents with HTML
You can create text documents, and applications with XML.
XML includes many things missing from the HTML.
XHTML adds alittle more to HTML to try an beef it up.

You can create different outputs from XML. such as HTML, PS, PDF.

You can find just about everything relating to the web, and the various languages used for creating content on the World Wide Web Consortium site.
