I'm not really requesting it, but some people may realize that Winamp 2.91 is very 1337 and want it. Winamp 5 lags like hell on my AMD Duron 1.4GHz, which is why I use 2.91.. .and some people may still want that, and it would be fun to see 1.0, etc...

I am using Winamp 5 and it is fine by me. It is certainly preferable to Windows Media Player 9 which seems to me to be rather clumsy. k35454.

If your not requeting it, then please don't post in the request board.

I recommend version 2.95, which this site doen't have. I just submitted it though, so maybe they will at some point.

I was curious as to what all was added in the 2.91 and 2.95 versions of Winamp.
I have ver. 2.81 and was considering updating to 2.95, but am wondering if it is worth it.

Is there video support? and if there is, is it any good?

I have heard about upgrading the internal drivers from a newer winamp onto the old one, which begs the question: How to do that?
Is that worth it as well?

I don't want all the unnecessary crap that comes with 5-series Winamp, even though the skins are nice. It's a resource-hog when compared to the 2-series.

Any information would be much appreciated.

That helps a ton! Thanks a bunch.

EDIT: I think I'll go with Winamp 2.95. The bugfixes alone are nice.

I couldn't find if there is a bootup window, like in the 3-series. Is there? Because, that's what turns me off of 3.

Website: www.winamp.com
Current version: 5.05
Desired versions: 3.0-4.0

I have winamp 2.64, and I am wondering, can any of the later versions convert/save from various audio and MIDI formats?

Winamp v3.0 is available for download from this site.

And from here: ftp://ftp.etel.ru/media/Player/WinAmp/win...amp3_0-full.rar (ftp://ftp.etel.ru/media/Player/WinAmp/winamp3_0-full.rar)

Nullsoft never released Winamp with a version number of 4.0.

Does anyone have the installation files for this? I have it already installed but I would like the install files too. Everyone seems to be using 2.95, I have been using 2.98 for who knows how long now and I really don't feel like going backwards (it'd only really happen if all 3 of my computers died at once...) but yeah.

welcome to ov just a friendly pointer, always try a search before making requests and where possible add to an existing thread it helps to keep all relevent information together and not spread all over the forum making it more difficult for others to find one such thread you could of added to was this one http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?a...=3553&hl=winamp (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=3553&hl=winamp)

Are you sure about Winamp 2.98? As far as I know, there was never a Winamp 2.98, unless you have some leaked, internal, developer-only version.

Of couse, you could always check Winamp Heaven (http://winampheaven.net/) for a list of alot of old Winamp versions.

The best version of Winamp is 2.81 (RIGHT BEFORE AOL BOUGT THE COMPANY AND DESTROYED THE PRODUCT!)

Like Realplayer,it was good UNTIL 8.0,after that AOL had bought "Realnetworks" and totally trashed Realplayer (Banners, ads, etc)

Huh if you say so :hmm: ... the versions 5 still seem good to me, even though I don't use all the features and don't do the default install.

Version 2.x was good until XP SP2/WMP 9 & 10 was released. Could not get the EQ to work on the old WinAmp when playing CD's even with plugins available for that version. Went to version 5 with Classic look and all is well again. IMO, version 5 is not all that bad, and as far as I can remember, you can still customize the install to get the 'Lite' version.

 Just to notify people : today I tried to install the latest "5.5 10th year anniversary edition" of WinAmp under Windows 98 : it installed, but even after reboot, I could not run it : always had the same error message about Shell32.dll and a missing export or something (please forget my approximative translation from french).

So as far as I know, the last version of WinAmp to really work under Windows 98 is version 3.35.
Was not really easy to find that one since :
- it's not on OldVersion (yet)
- most general download sites link to the latest official version
- even if they don't, when they linked to the direct link on official website, it's just dead (I guess the guys from AOL don't like to keep older versions :/ )

Finally could find it on that page : http://www.hit.ro/downloads/files/Winamp-5.35-Full.html :)

The site seems to be in Italian or something, but it's still easy to use even if you don't speak it — I don't...
