Hi,

Resurrecting an older computer. It works ok, but getting a locked up browser once in a while, and a few windows errors on startup. Can anyone recommend a decent (preferably free) program to diagnose and repair Win98SE? Thanks. Ed.

Not sure if you've already thought of this, but just perhaps reinstalling Win98 might help solve the problems. You may not have to reinstall from scratch, and I can't remember, but you may be able just to reinstall over top of your current installation. I don't recall if Win9x had a diagnostics utility on the startup CD.

Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying but ive been away for a while, problems in windows 98 is often down to a very fragmented drive, use the disc defragment utility and once done try a free registry cleaner, there are many out there but cccleaner was good on 98,heres a few you may try one of these http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/free-registry-cleaner-programs.htm if you still have issues, try and post the actual error messages as we may know more of what they are.
