Please does anyone know where I can get a free or freeware FTP Client to upload my websites, an older version will do. It is for Win 98, and a non commercial site. Thanking you.

WS_FTP LE is a good program for your needs. It is free for personal and government use:

ftp://ftp.ftpplanet.com/WS_FTP/WS_FTP%20L...LE/ws_ftple.exe (ftp://ftp.ftpplanet.com/WS_FTP/WS_FTP%20LE/ws_ftple.exe)

FTP Explorer does not have all of the buttons and bells of WS_FTP LE but it has a very friendly GUI and is quick to download...Also extremely stable.
Unlimited trial. Download from:-http://www.ftpx.com/download.html

Tom, is there another freeware FTP client that will work with my Windows 95 computer?

Well, WS_FTP LE does run on 95 (Although the newer WS_FTP Pro versions don't.)
However, there is an FTP program that ships with Windows 95. Just click ''Start'' | ''Run'' and type: ''ftp.exe''
This is a command line program that I haven't used much, but for help, type ''?'' to quit type ''bye''
You can see what the other commands are at the help screen.

Also, try the freeware program FTP Commander:
http://www.internet-soft.com/DEMO/ftpcommander.exe (I know it says demo in the URL, but it isn't.)
from website http://www.vista.ru/2inter.htm

Assuming you mean the FTP Commander program, I can easily get it to access directories (just by double clicking on the directory I want to open) and to go to a password protected ftp site by clicking the "New Server" button in the "FTP Servers" frame, and then filling out the appropriate ftp server information (strip off the "ftp://" from your account info, if present)

If you are trying to use the Windows ftp.exe, then type "open ftp.ftphost.com" (where ftp.ftphost.com is your host) you will then be prompted for a Username and Password. Some sites may require you to type "user" and "password" instead of prompting. To change directories type "cd" and then the directory name, just as you would do in MS-DOS.
However, the "dir" command seems to be refused.
I recommend you use the FTPCommander program since the one MS provides is not very user friendly.

I think that WS_FTP LE recently changed their licensing policy on their newer versions. It would be great to have a version posted here on oldversion.com that still allowed for free "personal use"...
(From download.com's website: "Unfortunately, WS_FTP LE 6.0 new license scheme states that only educational users are authorized to use the program for free. Everyone else should look to the $40 WS_FTP Pro. ")

There are stil several ftp apps out there that are freeware.
Many have been posted in the past on the forum, and i am certain Ws_ftp has been requested in the past.
FtpZilla (http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/) FREEWARE, is a fast FTP client with an easy to use interface which is available in different languages. The Site Manager, Drag&Drop and the transfer queue help you to control your tasks. FileZilla can connect to almost every FTP server, even if you are behind a firewall or SOCKS proxy. On SFTP servers and servers which support SSL or Kerberos GSS, all traffic can be encrypted.
Blazeftp (http://www.flashpeak.com/blazeftp/) FREEWARE, Multiple-Session Ftp Client, WS_FTP Replacement. is a multiple-session and cache-enabled ftp client with offline searching capability. It's slim, easy to use and powerful. You can learn to use it in several minutes. BlazeFtp also has many special features making esp. convenient to be used by webmasters.

You're right, found a link to another website in an old topic about FTP clients: Freeware Ftp Client article (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=423&hl=ws_ftp)

Just needed to go get it at another site...
ftp://ftp.ftpplanet.com/WS_FTP/WS_FTP%20L...LE/ws_ftple.exe

;)

Yes, it may be available at other sites now,... but for how long?

IMHO: It's a worthy addition Oldversion's inventory. It will be easier to add it now, than it will after other sites stop offering it.

Please search the forum, and read the pinned topic titled, How to Request and App (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=1585) If you are not certain how to make a proper request.
Then add the necessary changes into this thread.

Searching the forum will give you a possible answer, as this similar title has been asked for before.
http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?a...5&hl=ftp+server (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=1915&hl=ftp+server)

Some other freeware Ftp apps
http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?a...9&hl=ftp+server (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=1309&hl=ftp+server)

And you can find some additional freeware FTP server apps in this thread.

Please read the pinned topic How to Request an App (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=1585) if your not certain on how to make a request, then add the necessary info back into this thread.

No need to post this multiple boards, thats frowned upon here.
Search the forum, as this and many other ftp apps have already been posted.

There's another topic on ftp clients. Some of the links that were provided are for ws-ftp-le.

It may or may not be the exact version you want, but check it out:
http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?a...t=423&hl=ws+ftp (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=423&hl=ws+ftp)

I don't think Ipswitch is still offering the free version to the general public but they continued offering it to educatators for a while after they stopped offering it publicly. Check out college websites for a page(s) of tools they provide for the convienence of students & faculty.

BTW: There are probably several members who have this popular software, but since you aren't registered, they have no way of sending it to you.

Reason enough to lock redundant posts.
Please take the time to search this forum, if you took the time to look this site up, then you are capable of searching this site before posting.
