Don't know how useful old versions of Firefox will be,
the older versions are just bloated, buggy and lack
options.

I wiped my backups of version 0.1-0.4 because they didn't even
support 5 button mouse browsing, meaning I had to click on icons
all day to move around the net. :(

5 buttons!? I had a 5 button mouse, and its sitting in the junk box, the mouse is not faster than the accelerator keys. Being someone who types out commands on the CLI for hours entering SQL statements, I find the mouse to be much slower, since I have to remove my hands from the keyboard and use the mouse and make movements, and click tiny buttons.
No matter how useful the mouse is, the alt/control keys still offer more powerful options than the mouse.
Good browsers, such as Konqureor, have the option to alter whatever key combos you prefer to whatever command you like.
The mouse is fast, yes, but don't rule out an app just because it lacks 5 button (which is not the norm) support.

I can understand where you're coming from furnace, indeed a mouse isn't that useful if your on CLI's.
For me, solely using a keyboard for website browsing I consider somewhat 'hardcore', the importance
of 5 buttons on a mouse for internet browsing is I can go backwards, forwards and scroll webpages
instaneously without moving the mouse pointer, in effect the traditional forward and backward a buttons
and the scroll bar are no longer needed. A time saving feature I'm used to and miss if it's not available,
even though my two hand typing speed is at minimum 60wps and single handed 40wps, used optimally
it does save time under a GUI environment like common browsers, for me and would imagine other casual
users maybe.

True 5 buttons isn't the norm, though nearly all manufacturers sell 5 button models for PC owners,
I have 2/3 button mice and Wacom graphics tablets, I find the extra buttons
very useful and allow me to do much more much faster in all my GUI applications, all without having to use
icons or tricky key combinations, it takes less than half the time to click a mouse macro button than to use
alt+ctlr combination or reach for an F key no matter how fast I reach for the keys, not moving my hand
or finger at all I find faster and also less tricky.

For users who intend using Intellimouse features the first version that supports this is phoenix-0.5-win32.zip
, thats version 0.5 of the Mozzila Firefox browser.

The reason originally I posted, was because I didn't think old versions of Firefox particularly fit undo the moto of things
here, quite simply because they break the common trend common i.e 'newer version = much slower & massively bloated', because older versions of Firefox are actually more bloated than the newer versions.

happy happy ;)

I don't think there are even many 'old versions' of firefox. As the product would have been named Firebird for a while and previous to that, Phoenix. Are you including the previous builds as well when you state 'old versions of firefox"?

I was not meaning to imply using a mouse in a CLI app. Just when you spend more time typing out complex structures, whether it is SQL statements or coding, you find having to switch to a mouse for input very slow.
I can go backwards to previous webpages via keyboard commands, alt, + <- (left arrow). I can scroll up by pressing the home key or down with the end key or switch runnings tasks very fast with the alt + tab. Closing those old pop-ups was as simply as hitting the Ctrl + W key.
Sure they are harder to learn if you don't know and all you ever used was a mouse for input. And it does sot matter how fast a route is if your not familar with it.
The fastest word editor I use is VI, no GUI to it. But its quick, and extremely powerful, but if you dont know the options for searching and replacing is :%s/oldword/newword or coping lines of text being YY and pasting being Shift+P its going to be extremely slow going for someone.
5 button mouse are not the norm for the Windows Operating System. For X Windows, a 3 button mouse is crucial, and your going to be hindered in you do not use a 3 button mouse, But for Windows, a 2 button mouse is the norm, For Mac OS, its still 1 button.

Try reading the pinned topic as pun has pointed out, and follow the directions and search before posting. If you had, you would have seen this thread (yours was unnecessary and therefore merged.)
Searching before posting is useful and in alot of the times, it turns up an answer and your not having to wait for a reply.
Thats why the topic is pinned, it's not a decoration.

Does anyone want v 0.8? or should it be placed on an archive anywhere?

locustfurnace

I do not see any reason Firefox or any web browser should be archived at Oldversion, since there are already well established archive sites for these programs.
Look up a few lines, you will see browsers.evolt. and a site from beanboy which already fulfill the need.
Nothing wrong at all with oldversion hosting the file also, but I think the space and bandwidth could be better used for files not archived elsewhere.

Ive just installed the latest version of Firefox v1.02 Almost all my extentions have gone including "add bookmark hear" "password generator" "full screen magnifier" and many others its also very slow.

I think the best version was v0.8 or v0.9 which by now had some good extentions i think v0.8 still has the most.

If FF is going to upgrade security looseing in the process our personal configeration, i might as well use Opera which has some good features but which fills the screen and is not at all user friendly

Would i be better off getting rid of FF and installing FF 0.8 (if i can find it) or just useing opera untill the extentions catch up??

Could MS be attacking FF just to make it up date, and so loose its great features?

What is wrong with the new version, Firefox 1.0.2? What's so great about 0.9 or whatever? And you said you wanted 0.9 as you had 0.9.1 and didnt like it? Firefox has been updated as old versions let in spyware and viruses more than newer versions. They update programs for reasons. Also old versions of firefox have many bugs. What is your big objection to the new version? Anyway, there are alot of Firefox 0.9 on emule. www.emule-project.net (http://www.emule-project.net)

That's one way to get your system infected with virii and spyware. Why would anyone get a program from a p2p network, when the developers do host the older versions.

If looking for older versions of Firefox, get it from the source.

Unnecessary for Oldversion.com to offer these files, as they are available on most (if not all) Mozilla FTP servers:

I just uninstalled Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4 because my favorite extension only works with 1.0 and now I want Mozilla Firefox 1.0 back. :(

Please add Mozilla Firefox 1.0 to oldversion.com

Guest

1.0 has security bugs, just wait for the update to the bookmark extension.

OR you can compile your own version. See link here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/re...leases/1.0.html (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/1.0.html)

As far as downloading it, search google, but it will be hard to find. You could always email the guy that makes the extension and ask them when it will be ready

http://browsers.evolt.org/?mozilla/firefox worth a look but slightly earlier than the version you asked for, in future try the pinned topic and also a search as there are many web browser threads and there is a possibility it may already of been asked for and answered.

It isn't necessary for Oldversion to host previous versions of Firefox.

All versions of Firefox are available from Mozilla.org

I came here in the search of finding older versions of Mozilla Firefox, because I seem to be having problems with the latest one (1.5.0.2). However, the ones I found here were too old, so I Googled around and on Mozilla's site somewhere, there is a link to a Public FTP where they host old versions of Mozilla Firefox.

Just go to the following link, click the version number you want, and then look around for the .exe file you need. In some version folders (later ones) you will have to click your Operating system and then your language (for America, it would be en-US. I'm sure you could figure it out for other languages)

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

Hope this helps.

Edit: I guess somebody already made note of this:
http://www.oldversion.com/talk/showthread.php?t=3231

Nevermind then, though, that might help make the site staff more aware that there are older versions easily available for download. I'd appreciate seeing some more older verions on the site.
