I was looking for software that would run lighter and quicker on my older IBM and was searching under old software. Well as you can see I found this site and have downloaded many Items and removed lots of memory hog newer versions. This is is fantastic so I joined.

My computer is acting like a new one now!!!! Well at least to me it is!!!

:o I also was very interested in how Brian did that. since I have nothing in life to do but work all the time! I went on a search, mispelling messenger. I could not come any where near this site. I tried! I really am glad he typed what he did though because he joined up and thats what counts. Now if I could just get his talent to find web sites, to work for me, I can not spell at all.
(Just kidding with you Brian) Still though, now I will probley be typing messenger wrong for years trying to get to this site............mesenger, masenger, moldgeer, .... This could go on for years,.......................................

Found oldversion.com by searching google for archived versions of Internet Explorer 5.x.

Results had this site and evolt.com for best bets.

I didn't think it would be this hard to do a complete rebuild of a Win95 machine

in my bookmarks, i had it bookmarked from a while back, so i can't rem exactly how I found it. prolly found it when I was restoring an old 286 laptop and was looking for an old version of Kermit for transferring files from server to old 286.
never got an old Kermit or whatever I was looking for. but did give alot of life to old 286 laptop.
or maybe it was when I was looking for TandyDesktop.

maybe I got it from
http://lightspeedref.web1000.com/main.html
which is a place for old win3.1 information.

I needed an older version of ACDSee v 2.43 (Also known as Classic). At the time I was running a 486 and the newest version at the time wouldn't install and kept crashing my computer. But I had ACDSee 2.43 earlier before a crash wiped out the program. One of the searches for this program I found listed www.oldversion.com A lucky find at the time. Not only did you have the viewer I knew worked on my 486 you had a ton of older programs that the dinosaur could run.

Every time I upgrade I save my favourites to a floppy and take OV along into my next machine.

I have found I hate the ATX boards so the best I've found in the AT is a board that run a P II AMD K6-2 450 with 384 RAM. One day I might have to upgrade to an ATX power supply but for now I like what I have. So old versions still comes in handy even today.

As for why I hate the ATX, a bad power supply kept glitching at the wrong times totally shutting down my computer, wiping out what I was working on. A few hours of that and I sent that JUNK back to the shop. As the old 486 AT supply never gave me any trouble I went back to that style. And yes, I've heard the arguement before, "It was just 1 bad power supply. No reason no to give another ATX computer a chance." Once bitten, Twice shy. So long as what I have will do what I need I'm content. But I think the disappearance of the serial mouse might force me to upgrade unless I find a good PS-2 adaptor card.

There are ps/2 to serial adapter plugs, you plug the ps/2 mouse into it, then plug that into your serial port. No need for a card.
As for the power supply glitching - most likely could have been an under-powered supply, dont waste the money on anything less than 300 watts.
ATX do have some bad "improvements," such as no way to turn em on when they are not hooked up to a M/B. Which makes testing M/B's alittle inconvenient at times. as you basically have to stuff them into a case now to test them if your not carrying along jumper wires.

I found it with google I think. Wow you guys, you have saved my chat communication life!!!

I lost an old version of AIM, and needed to reinstall, so like a dumbo, I installed the latest beta version of AIM, and wow I was pulling my hair out it sucked so bad. I could NOT stand it. I wanted to go back to the old version of AIM and I couldn't get an old install from any of my friends, and I really did not know where else I could find an old version.

Then I felt reallllly stupid when I found this site called "oldversion.com" with google and got my file, reinstalled, and now I am back to normal. This really made my day :)

I could write many many testimonials for this if you'd like, rofl :D  B)

New computer and looking for new version of "Win Zip" that I have used for many years..

So I did a Yahoo search and this "Old Version" site was among the sites listed..

When searching the other sites I found out that they now want to sell it instead of giving it away for free..

I was about to say screw it and install the older version that I have on floppy, when I decided to check out just one more site in the list....

and here I is... and you can bet that I'm gonna spread the word all over the many forums that I am a member of.... They are mostly RV forums that talk about motor homes, travel trailers, etc....

Everyone should know about this place !!!
