I'm in dispute with someone over this. I swear that after a long wait, using AOL 5.0, the next version for AOL was called AOL 9.0 for OS X. Or was it really what it is today?: AOL for OS X ... period! Is there a listing somewhere of all AOL versions for Macs?

The all-new AOL for Mac OS X, developed with extensive feedback from AOL users, brings enhancements to AOL’s most popular features and an elegant new design that takes full advantage of the stunning Mac OS X Aqua user interface.

It could be possible that AOL released that version after 5.0 to target OS X users. Since it would be based on code for OS X, it would not be applicable to MS Windows users.

There are some company's that do release different build numbers for different OS's. Which is a way for developers to keep track of Branches, trees in the CVS system.
