What is the Internet Archive? First it is a giant repository of
many materials. Much of the material even pre-dates the Internet. All of the material is legal.

The section of the Internet Archive of interest for our purpose
is the WayBackMachine. In a nutshell the WayBackMachine keeps
copies of websites over time. You can use the WayBackMachine to

* Find a web page that no longer exists
* Research changes to a page over time
* Find links on older pages that are not on newer pages.

The WayBack Machine is easy to use. Just type the web address
you want to research then click "Take Me Back." The
WayBackMachine will retrieve all the stored copies of that page
and let you choose which one to view by date. Super handy.

One thing to keep in mind. Some websites change names over the
years. If you are not seeing what you expect you may need to use
the original name.

If you know the company website where you got the program from, back in the day, and you can't find your original program, try going to http://www.archive.org and typing in their website address.

This site will go back a loooong way to find the site you went to years ago, and then you can possibly download the old version from there if it's been archived...

archive.org is sometimes also called "internet wayback machine"

Hope this is useful to you all, and thanks for a great site, oldversion.com.

Happy 2008!
