I would suggest the open source "Real Alternative" Also called Media Classic
I have been using it for over two years now and I play all by Media files with it, except those on the web which I have to use the program it selects as I have
don't know how to effect any change of program with those web files.

Welcome to the site!!

I would say REALPLAYER 8 (Last version before AOL bought them and ruined it)

Good luck!
