Hello everybody!
Im searching for a freeware alternative for one of the following programs:
http://www.tamos.com/products/netresident/
http://www.eeye.com/html/products/Iris/index.html
I need a packet sniffer because i want to find out what data is being sent by programs when they do auto-update. I have already tried Ethereal/Wireshark, but unfortunately its too complicated for me to understand. I just want a sniffer which decodes the captured traffic as clear as possible. Thanks for help!

a suggestion i would make was try and do a little research and learn a little about what you are doing, netresident is quite a simple app to use and honestly do not think you will find anything much simpler.

Try SmartSniff v1.30 (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/smsniff.html) or IP sniffer (http://erwan.l.free.fr/).
Both are fairly good.

Er, what are you talking about? As far as i know data interceptors have nothing to do with flooding, penetrating other computers.

You can flood ip address with packets, if you got the right sniffer

That's called DOS, (denial-of-service attack), which is illegal in most countries. So do not do it unless your doing that only on your own network.

protowall (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?autocom=faq&CODE=02&qid=31) is all you need, its one of the best pieces of freeware you will ever use. it not only blocks ips from a table (you can create your own custom table or use the preassembled one) it reports which ones its blocking.

Thanks for the info, EastTunerz! But i was not looking for an ip-blocker. A packet sniffer is a tool for intercepting network/internet traffic. However, i have already found a good one for my purpose.
