Can't read VB.EX_ when installing VB3.0

I have three floppy discs for installing Visual Basic 3.0, but the computer can't read VB.EX_ on the first disc. I'm the owner of these original discs, so it should be legal if I could get a copy of this file from someone so I can install the program. Does anyone have this file?

VB.EX_ should be VB.EXE too bad there is way to rename it then your computer would read it.

Its VB.EX_ on the floppy disc. Its converted to VB.EXE after installation. When I try to install VB 3.0 a message comes up saying it can't read VB.EX_. If I click ignore, the program installs, but when started it says it can't find VB.EXE.

Files that appear as 123.EX_, the underscore implies that the file is compressed. You likely lack the necessary tools to uncompress this file. VB 3 is from the DOS days, so you will likely need a DOS environment to uncompress the file.

Anyway if the floppy fails to be read, there's no way it will uncompress.
I think you should look for some program that has the same function as good old DOS Norton Utilities' DiskTool, which was able to rewrite formatting info on a floppy without erasing data.

Note : I have 4 install discs for VB3 ... wonder why you have only 3. Maybe there's a difference with language versions (mine is french).

Oh and you don't *need* a DOS environment to uncompress this kind of files, extract.exe / extrac32.exe will also work fine from Win9x/XP.

I have the standard version which has 3 disks. Someone on another forum sent me a copy of VB.EX_ from the 9 disk professional version. I tried copying all 3 of the disks I have to the hard drive on my computer as backup and found that they all copied without any error messages. Out of curiousity, I copied the first disk to a floppy and tried installing it using the copy of the first disk and the other two original disks. It installed and runs now using all the files from my 3 disks. It runs in Windows XP SP2. :)

I haven't tried using the Professional VB.EX_ file yet.
