I am in need of an old version of 3DSMax, aka 3D Studio Max, which is a 3D modelling program. The only version available on Discreet's (http://www.discreet.com) (the developer) website, 3DSMax 6, doesn't operate on Windows 98, only 2000 and XP. I have no desire to switch operating systems, and so if anyone has version 5 or 4, I'd love to have it. Thanks in advance :D

was there a shareware version of 3dmax? or has it only been a retail app?
have you looked into free alternatives such as pov-ray? not a 3d modeler, a ray tracer, but it depends on what your trying to accomplish
http://www.povray.org/
there is also ALICE

World Construction Set

YASRT is a stochastic raytracer. It stands for Yet Another Simple RayTracer.

Blender3d (http://www.blender3d.com/)
Blender is the first and only fully integrated 3D graphics creation suite allowing modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, realtime interactive 3D and game creation and playback with cross-platform compatibility - all in one tidy, easily and free downloadable package!
K-3D (http://k3d.sourceforge.net/new/)K-3D is a free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling and animation system for GNU/Linux and Win32. K-3D is designed from-the-ground-up to generate motion-picture-quality animation with RenderMan-compliant render engines.

Yes, there was a shareware version, and the version of 6.0 I got that wouldn't work on my system was also shareware. I specifically need 3d Studio Max, because I'm trying to make 3d Models for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and the art tools supplied by Blizzard work only with 3d Studio Max.

Program Name: 3d Studio Max
Website: http://www4.discreet.com/3dsmax/
Current version: 6
Desired versions: 5
Description: I so cannot afford this program but would love to try it out, so I tried downloading the trial from the site, but version 6 does not work with anything under Windows 2000 SP3. Does anyone have/no where to find version 5 for a trial or a full download?

I guess I'd be willing to try SOMETHING else... but it's that I would prefer tying 3DSM because I'm interested in renders for abstract 3d for web layouts and such. I have seen tutorials for what I'm interested in trying, so it'd be easy to start off.

I'm currently looking for older versions of 3ds Max, 6 or 7 will work. The current version on the company website is 8. If anyone has an older version of 3ds Max, please let me know.

I do not see an option for downloading a trialware or shareware version of this product. Requests for a full version which is not FREE is not permitted on these boards.

Gotcha. Did not see the link for downloading the trial version the first time.

I am not going to go through the process of filling out the forms to download a current version just so I can snag the filename, which is what would need to locate an older version. Maybe someone else may know the filename to seek, or feel like going through the registration process.

Simply searching for the program, turned up this bit of information. This is in reply to someone else seeking versions 3, 4 and 5.

Max 3 uses a hardware lock and will require updated drivers unless you are running Windows NT 4 or 98. You may have issues getting 4 and 5 to run on XP. 3, 4, and 5 all do work on Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

No one so far has been too keen to delve too deep into this incestous relationship, perhaps someone will supply the file name pointers and move it along. (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/showthread.php?&p=5713)

Well my pc specs are pretty new; I built this computer not too long ago. My theory is the OS since I don’t see vista anywhere on the properties/comp ability anywhere. If this is the problem is there anything I can do?
