Hello people,
I am talking to the owners and administrators here.

I'll be short and go to the point. I bet that your file server is under constant heavy load, and that file serving costs are your biggest problem. Yet your site is so plain and simple, no nag screens, votes, counters, circular links, porn adverts etc etc etc. That is just for every congratulation! Thank you!

To make my contribution, I suggest you to expand your site functionality with an option to download each item either classical way or trough a torrent system. I suppose that this would significantly decrease the your file serving traffic. But you would have to install your own torrent tracker.

The best part is that you would not need to modify the web site organisation much. This is what I would just do:
For every item, when a user clicks on it to download it, instead of loading an automatic download page, the server would present the user with a choice of A] a direct download link and B] to download a .torrent file. There could also be a little side table showing current number of seeders and leechers and so on. I don't see anything else important that needs to be added of modified.

It should not take you long to figure out how to install a torrent system, and that would be a benefit as much for you as for the downloaders too.

Not everyone has SW that would be able to expand such files and TORRENTS are frowned upon for the most part.....

Agreed on the SW aspect. But not so much of the "torrent" comment. There is nothing wrong with the Torrent concept. I often find a lot of GNU/LINUX vendors offering their software via the torrent system. Which are all legal torrents.

As I said, your site would offer two options for each download, either to download it directly (the classical server-client way), or as a torrent.
The users who are experienced with the torrenting concept, they will utilise the torrenting system just fine, and for those who don't have a clue what a torrent is, they will just download the actual program/file itself, the classical way.

Remember, the torrenting system is not illegal by itself, but the fact is that most content which is distributed by it is illegal. But those two facts are unrellated.

Many perfectly legal things can be downloaded by official torrent means, like AutoPatcher, many Linux distributions, some Blizzard's products, etc. etc.

It's an excellent idea, but is a bit difficult to implement. I will look into it though!
