I would appreciate it if someone could recommend a basic CD/DVD burning program and version number. I only need basic functions such as copying and making music and data discs. Thanks for the help.

Check DeepBurner Pro Personal. It works great for me.

I've used ImgBurn for several years. It's free, and pretty powerful. Very reputable, no adware, etc.

Nero has been one of the more prominent ones in terms of burning discs. Though the have quite taken a plunge in terms of not keeping up with what their clients want and have been a portal of viruses that are tapped by people who want to destroy machines through malicious installations. Nevertheless, you can always try some of the daemon tools and see how that will work for you.

Keep in mind that CD & DVD burning programs are designed for you to author CDs and DVDs for: music, photos, movies, games, data, or other digital files that will hopefully stimulate your creativity. As well as CD and DVD burning software, this category also includes Lightscribe software which enables you to produce laser-etched labels with text or graphics, as opposed to stick-on labels and printable discs.
