How about having some older versions of SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com/). A few reasons why....

1. It's the BEST FTP client (you can use an XP GUI even without having WinXP! -- kewl)
2. Build 970 (the most recent one) is not free anymore (with certain acceptions), but any build before that is free.
3. Another awesome program to expand your website!!!

I can supply you with a couple of exe's for this app if you are considering adding it to your list.

Best FTP Client on the planet! Any version that is build 969.8 or older is free. I could supply build 969.2 and 969.8.

The current version is here: http://www.smartftp.com/
But it's gotten HUGE!! over 6 meg!
The old versions were much smaller, but I can't find them anywhere.

What I am needing is a program to transfer files from one FTP server to another FTP server directly, and SmartFTP does that, and is free.

I know there are a few other free programs that do that, but they are also large in file size. I want a small one... preferably under a meg in size. I don't need all the fancy features, just the ability to move files between FTP servers.... So if anyone knows of any other small programs that will do that, old or new versions, please let me know.

Thanks much for that suggestion.

Unfortunately BlazeFTP doesn't seem to be compatible with one of the FTP servers I need to connect to! I have tried contacting the tech support for the FTP server, and he looked at it too... So now I've e-mailed the authors of BlazeFTP, but who knows if they will ever fix it....

So does anyone have any other suggestions for a program I could use?

I did try looking over the past posts in this forum, but the SEARCH feature won't let me search for "FTP" ! it returns this error:

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords.

It's hard to determine if all the FTP programs talked about in the forum will support site-to-site transfer, or what file size they are... so if anyone knows any more FTP programs that fit this criteria, please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

You may be able to use PSCP to do ftp - ftp transfer's. I use this myself to transfer files from one server to the next. It makes use of SSH, which also may be able to acomplish what you want, but i did not bother dropping anylinks as you had not made mention if the FTP sites support SSH.
Putty, PSFTP, PSCP.. (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html) (FREEWARE)
I've Noticed that most of the downloads for 'older' SmartFTP packages are nothing but web installers which is just a simple configuration file, which then goes online to download the newest packages. This makes it difficult to install older software. As it seems there may not be a self-contained installation package, except for the most recent, hence the notation of "full" in the current download name. Since all the files i have come across are either the newest version, being 5.6megs or the old web installers, which are in the 1.0 version, was there ever a full installation routine you could download in the past that was not a web installer? Since even the newest release is at the 1.0 stage it could not have had that long of release run either.
SmartFTP SmartFTP v1.0 ALPHA (ftp://ftp.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de/pub/local/networking/win95/ftp/client/SmartFTP/SmartFTPSetup.zip) (2.28megs)
The v1.0 Alpha is alittle tricky to set-up, have to make sure it does not go online to download the latest packages.

Some Additional Finds Core FTP Lite (http://www.coreftp.com/) (2.12megs) (FREEWARE)
includes SSH/SFTP, SSL/TLS, browser integration, site to site transfers, drag and drop support, file viewing, file editing, transfer resuming, firewall support, custom commands, URL parsing, and much, much more!
CocoFTP (http://www.cocoftp.com/) (1.0megs) (SHAREWARE)
Site to Site Transfers; For FXP enabled remote hosts, CocoFTP can transfer files directly between remote hosts without creating a temp file.
CuteFTP (http://www.globalscape.com/cuteftp/) (3.1megs) (SHAREWARE)
Features: Windows interface, a built-in HTML editor, site-to-site transfers, scheduler, and persistent file transfers
AbsoluteFTP (http://www.vandyke.com/products/absoluteftp/features_1.html) (2.88megs) (SHAREWARE)
Features: Direct server-to-server transfers: Transfer between FTP servers without a "middleman" for faster transfers.

Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, I found out about the web installers for SmartFPT... I thought I'd found an older version, but it was just a web installer.

I gave CoreFTP a try, but has similar problems with it.

I searched around some more, and found an old win95 program that is supposed to do site-to-site transfers. It seemed to connect to my FTP server easier than the other programs above, but now it looks like the FTP servers I am trying to transfer between just won't support the site-to-site transfer....

This program seems pretty good though, and is only 600k

I couldn't find any more information about it though...

It seems it was put out in 1996, and I guess the company is no longer in buisiness or somethign...

You can download it from this page:

http://papa.indstate.edu:8888/ftp/main&#33...95!FTP.html (http://papa.indstate.edu:8888/ftp/main!Windows95!FTP.html)

it's called ReachOut SuperFTP Client Version 7.0 for Win95

It seems to be a very nice program, if it actually works (which I can't tell for sure because my FTP servers don't seem to support it... instead of transfering directly from one site to the other, I just get a 500 port error, and then it uses my hard drive as the middle-man to transfer the files.....)

Maybe you could try it out and see if it works.

That one might even be worth archiving here at OldVersions.

You might want to look for FTP apps which claim to support FXP. FXP stands for 'File eXchange Protocol.' Both hosts have to support PASV mode and must allow PORT commands to foreign hosts.

Couple more finds.
[list] Lmirror (http://www.lundman.net/unix/lundftpd.html) (FREE)
Automatic FTP (FXP) site-to-site mirroring system. Plus several additonal ftp apps;
LundBNC: essentially a FTP relay program, with the intention of handling SSL encryption (eventually).
Lundftpd: Single process, non-blocking FTPD with internal user database
UltraFXP (http://www.ultrafxp.com/en/history.htm) (1.5megs) (SHAREWARE)[list]
