I have an old 486 running at an overclocked 100Mhz with only 8Mb Fast Page RAM. I want to use it for internet access for a few months. Where can I find suitable ISP software?

what do you mean ISP software? dialer? wintrumpet? PPP connection software?

depends on what OS you are running. DOS? Win 3.1? Win 3.11 WFW, Win NT3.51, Win NT 4, win95?

what is the goal? do you want just email, just web, or both?

start by looking at http://simtel.net/
thats all i can say since need more info from yourself.

Old Isp software required, my OS is Win 95 and I suppose it'll need to be dial up, not enough RAM for anything else.

I think what I'm looking for is something like AOL 4 or 5.

What I'm trying to do is sell information from a website without using my home computer. I have an old one which is not used and if that'll work for a few months I shall be happy with it.

As it is a quasi-commercial op AOL might not take too kindly to it. Any ideas?

I just posted a find for old AOL software.

widows 95 has tcp/ip stack so it should have no problems dialing up to any local isp. windows 3.11WFW also had a built in tcp/ip stack.

8megs is normal for a win95 machine. if all you plan to do is 1 thing - such as running email or web browsing. When Win95 first came out on machines, that's all it came with was 8 megs of RAM. I paid an extra $300 for 16 megs, or was it 8 megs extra ram. but everyone else had 8 megs standard in their windows 95 machines when it first came out.
if you use the version of IE that comes with it. which was IE3 i think, it should do you alright. and if all you are doing is sending email or something, you might want to drop IE, go with a TEXT-only web browser, such as Lynx.
and maybe get yourself a copy of Pine for emailing.
but seriously the win95, 100Mhz and 8 megs should handle the task. It did before, and can do it again.
