I guess I just need a Java, I don't really know much about Java. I am mostly into games and Hardware, some software, but not much.

I would NOT reccomend putting Sun Java on here. It really sucks! Even though Java VM is made by Sun it is better made.

Just a thought. :D

ok, Thanks, I will download it right away.

Does anyone have or know where i can find an older version ov java? i dont see them on your site.....

04-13-2003, 05:10 AM
I don't know how old of a version you want or whether you need MS or Sun?

I have the next to most recent Sun java v1.4.1_01 still.

Ever since Microsoft has no longer been able to distribute new copies of it's JVM I have seen several posts on the MS Windows Update newsgroup with addresses of sites that still have it for download. I have no idea if all of these were the most recent or there may have been older versions too.

Good luck in your search.

yes, you can download many types of java at this site hope this helps, Lakota

Does anyone have install files for the Java Runtime Environment for Windows 95? The current JRE install file at Sun is for Win98 and up only. I hate people that don't consider us non-Rockefellers that can't afford the latest in technogeekery.

you prolly are looking for JRE 1.1.3
but above version might work

here also is a Java timeline chart can referrence

Under most circumstances Sun Java Virtual Machine is not required, the Microsoft one is quite sufficient.

Unfortunately it's now near impossible to find. So I think it would make a great addition to this site.

Does anyone know where I can get an old version of Java? The new version (that puts the java symbol in the taskbar and makes the java symbol appear when loading something) makes all of my java programs work very very slowly on my old pc, making me unable to play PopCap and Yahoo! games. Can anyone give me the old version? Any help would be appreciated.

Please read the Pinned topic, How to Request an App (http://www.oldversion.com/talk/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=1585) because it makes it easier to find the program you requested. Then make the nessary corrections to your post and reply in this thread.

Go here:

I would suggest getting the off line download. That way you can burn the install to a CD to back it up

Hello --

Program name: Java Runtime Environment
Website: www.java.com
Current version: 1.4.2
Desired version: 1.3.1_02

I am running a Java-based application on my corporate intranet and need the installer for the older version of the JRE in order to do network installs (specifically needs to be 1.3.1_02 - I've found 1.3.1_15 on the internet, but it won't work). I've looked all over the internet and have come up empty -- if anyone here can provide assistance I would be very grateful!

Just about every Java Sun Product listed here. Pick the one you need and download it.

12-15-2004, 11:43 AM
I'm telling you, I had looked everywhere for this stupid thing -- how it escaped my attention, especially with a URL as simple as products/archive, is completely beyond me. Evidently my investigative prowess is somewhat less developed than I had once thought.

All's well that ends well, as far as I'm concerned. You, my friend, have saved me a lot of time. You are a wonderful human being.

Java Virtual Machine Download Links - Download JVMs

Microsoft Virtual Machine

Due to outage from the original server which hosts this virtualmachine website, i have made this page to let you choose between two locations of the same website.

http://www.winxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=0208..._VirtualMachine (http://www.winxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?id=020827UP-MS_VirtualMachine)

2. Another way to get Microsoft Java Virtual Machine
First go to this site and get the older version of the MS Java Virtual Machine:

This will check for the basic VM and install an older version onto XP, and then you need to go to Microsoft and install the Java 4.0 SDK which will give you the newer base java components. You can get those from this link: Microsoft SDK for Java 4.0 for Windows 95/98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP or later:

Once you have this installed and have re-booted your machine, then you need to go to the MS update site and install all the updates you do not currently have. The link to MS' site is:

Speaking as a Java developer, I can say: please don't use the MS JVM unless you really, really need to. I understand that it is a little more seamlessly integrated into Windows than the Sun JVM, but it's based on the Sun Java 1.1.4 (ancient history), and it's full of security holes. One of the reasons so many Java apps out there suck is that they have to stay compatible with this ancient JVM. The newer versions of Java released by Sun offer vast improvements for developers (and therefore for the applications they write). And you can download any version of the Sun JRE from their site from the links posted elsewhere in this thread.

(With all that said, the MS JVM would still be a worthwhile addition to the site, as it's that classic popular-but-no-longer-available type application.)

Right, and the thread you started was merged into this thread. We do not want hundreds of duplicate threads scattered throughout the boards, so all duplicate requests are merged, this makes it far easier to locate with the search engine. Plus, eliminates doing a scavenger hunt to find what's been posted in regards to someones file request.
It is also stated, to search before posting in the pinned topic - Howto Request an App.

MSJVM 3810 Installer

"MSJVM 3810 with installer from 3805
Will install on Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4 or later), Windows XP (any service pack), and possibly Windows 9X/ME (I haven't tried it).
Requires only one (ONE!) step to install. No need to have previous installed version of MSJVM."

I downloaded the newest Sun Java and I am having problems with it. Does anyone have any idea where I can find an older version to download and install?

Any and all help will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Besides Old Version, you also can download them from Sun

Old Versions of Java -Sun

As much as a wish every bug release of Java was perfect, some versions work better than others. For example, a number of our customers have had some sincere problems with Java 1.4.2_05. Therefore, we roll back to 1.4.2_03 typically.

The problem is always finding these version on Sun's site which is damn near impossible to navigate some times. For those looking for them, here is a link to the Java Archive.

Never fret! When you need to get that JDK 1.1 release, it's there.
