This may be a little "off topic" in a forum about old versions, but some of the members may be interested.

A free Security Update CD is available from Microsoft:

The Windows Security Update CD will be shipped to you free of charge. This CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003 and information to help you protect your PC. In addition, you will also receive free antivirus and firewall trial software.

This CD is only available for Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).
Thanks to "hackmaster" of DunningFools, and "Mitch" of FreedomList for bringing this to our attention.

Of course they need your mailing address. An e-mail address is needed for confirmation. For reasons unknown to me, a phone number is part of the "required information".

From MS website:
"The Windows Security Update CD is no longer available

We're sorry, but the Windows Security Update CD is no longer available for ordering. Please visit our Protect Your PC page for more information about improving your computer's security."

I got it, but it is the ONLY disc I have ever gotten that was an all-or-nothing install. No choice of which program updates to install. Had to install the entire thing. SInce Ive never used Outlook and dont use IE, it was no help at all. :P

No, Chester, we are not talking about the same discs.
I think you are referring to the very latest MS XP update.
The disc I have is something MS put out a few months ago. I dont know what it patches but since I use NETSCAPE (see above post)so I am concerned with NONE OF IT! I just ordered the disc in case it could be of use to me- besides it was free.

You can download the setup file. It's very useful because you have to download it only one!

Have fun!

I just ordered the free sp2 CD from Microsoft.

They say it will arrive in 4-6 weeks.

So, it's still available.

Thanks.

And I found it odd that Microsoft:
a> did not even ask me to verify I have a legit copy of WinXP
b> did not ask for $6 or so to cover the cost of the CD + s/h

Very odd, but whatever.
