There is alot of ways to encrypt the data your sending, you can use a secure IM to send secure messages (check the Chat links, pinned topic), or if you must use AOL, then you might want to get PGP and use a textpad, encrypt the message, then paste it into AOL and send it, the recipient MUST also be able to decrypt the message, so you will have to set them up to receive.

Those prices they are charging are scandelous.
Considering PGP encryption code source was made public domain ( and the poor dude was charged for exportation of controlled amunitions ) I think its wrong to charge so much money for using someone elses intellect. Network associates used to issue PGP as a freebee. Newer versions they removed the PGP disk and sold it as a seperate product. I have the very last release of the Freeware version they made .I put it on a website and you can download it from this URL Get PGP Here |

I believe the website i posted, which you say have high prices, is Phil Zimmermans business, which he is the creator of PGP. PGP is released to the public, but the software suites are not. Phil released the source code for PGP, whatever you want to do with the source code, you can do, charge for a product made from the code, give your freebies away, similar to GNUPGP, but you can charge. that compnay is chargeing for the UI to PGP, else PGP can be hard to use without some sort UI, else it is mostly just a CLI app when compiled. Yes, if you export encryption software you too can be charged with exportation of munnitions. although the restrictions have been recently loosened, they are still in place. and if you download encryption software, your best never to give it to anyone else, just send them to a link, unless you live in a country that does not have exportation control on encryption software. <!--QuoteBegin--Dookie@Oct 28 2003, 08:55 AM I think its wrong to charge so much money for using someone elses intellect.[/quote] the company Lindows does just that, they take GPL software, and say they made it, and then charge users for their "invented" Click-N-Run software, which is free everywhere else. so it is not uncommon to see. |
