Default Recording old games that Require 256 colors. Need help!

So I started a 90's Computer Game channel on youtube, but I haven't gotten far on adding anything. Why? I can't get any of the screen capture programs I own to record the video correctly. I'll put the CD in, start the screen recorder, than start the game. When I look at the footage once I'm done, It comes out looking like this:

I've tried using programs like Snapit and Fraps, but neither works right. Fraps won't even start while I'm in-game and press the record (F9) Button.

Recording these games shouldn't be so impossible.. I've seen other people do it: YouTube - JumpStart 4th Grade - Ending

Any suggestions?

Hi there ^^

Try runing your game in a virtual machine (for example MS Virtual PC, VirtualBox, VMWare Player... whichever works the best with your game ^^ ) and recording from your "real" machine.
