I use Firehand Ember, http://www.firehand.com/Ember/index.html to view many pics at once, in a thumbnailed array. A close second to this app is CompuPic, http://www.photodex.com/ you might want to try this, it beats opening 1 pic at a time.
Nnnooooooo they want my money but not for 15/30 days phew!! [/b][/quote]
well for the windows version of CompuPic costs, but i always used the UNIX version which was free.
not wanting to generate thumbnails, as to have a thumbnailed preview index. without opening each image to see what each image is.
I bought the Firehand Ember years ago. since it was the only one i tried that i liked alot, and i had been doing alot of image editing for designs.
I use Pixie under UNIX now to have an photo view.
Some more FREE alternatives but rather off-topic of Quicktime by the way,
• Easy Thumbnails FREE, utility for creating accurate thumbnail images and scaled-down/up copies from a wide range of popular picture formats.

• SlowView FREE, multimedia viewer, combining an image viewer, a video player and an audio player in one single program. It allows you to quickly view and browse your multimedia collection, always with the same simple yet powerful interface. SlowView is working on all Windows platforms and supports more than 50 image, video, and audio formats!

• PhotoFinder ProjectFREE, PhotoFinder Web lets viewers browse libraries, conferences (collections) and individual pictures. Viewers can also search by name or search the names, captions and other metadata in the database. It optimizes the layout of thumbnails to the browser window size, and automatically adjusts when the user resizes a window. This differs from most web-based tools by helping to accommodate a wide range of screen sizes.

• Cheez FREE, is a powerful, yet easy to use, image cataloguing tool. It's main purpose is to facilitate photo album creation, managing and maintenance, although it can be used for handling any kind of image collection. It supports more than 15 image formats, including BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, TGA, ICO, WMF/EMF etc.

Wow, thanks. Should have no trouble finding something off that list.

I know this is off-topic a bit, but do you know of a free service on the net that would allow me to convert a bmp image to gif or jpg? I've found a few but they alter the colors a bit, doesn't look right. You guys are the gurus i've been looking for!

you just need a program to convert. the favorite one i use, which is not free, is called LviewPro, but there are other good ones that are free, i have posted links for them here many times.
you dont want to compress much, at the most, also, in LviewPro, i use the default which aroud 75%. your quality and what you want will depend on whats the most important for you, If you want the best quality from bmp, you will want to use PNG format instead of jpeg.
you can also do lossless jpeg compression, which is good for things such as rotating the image and saving it, without re-compressing the image, which would degrade the qaulity more.
but if space is not an issue so much, you might want to use the png, as PNG was invented to repalce the gif algorithm, which is proprietry and licensed and costly. but the patent i believe has recently expired in the USA, but not in all countries.
Jpeg is good enough for most photos. with the advancement of jpeg2000 though, there might be much higher quality, though not many apps- if any, support this format, other than just the lossless format.

give these apps a run, they are free
