I have been searching the web for several weeks for RKC 1.02np Archiver which is listed at http://www.maximumcompression.com/. There is a similarly named program (RK 1.04.1a) which is not as good. The link seems to point to the same site but the program is not listed there. Please help me locate this program.

any reason you prefer this archiver? and version?
I prefer 7zip myself. since it is available in source file and can be compiled for just about any OS I run. Plus it handles zip, tarballs, rars as well as its own native 7z format.

maybe you can contact the author of RKC and see if they have an older version they can email you or point you to a link.
maybe someone on the board will have an old copy.

I would like to use RKC 1.02 because the results at http://www.maximumcompression.com/ show it to have superior compression. I tried contacting the author when I first became aware of the program but have not yet received any reply.

I would prefer v1.02 of the program but would be happy with an earlier version if anyone can help.

oh ok, looking at the homepage for the RKC program i see that the site is rather old, the last NEWs item is dated 28/10/2000, which makes me wonder if newer programs, such as the 7zip will compress better, being it is still being developed today. Does not appear that the RPC is developed anymore. unless the news just is improperly dated.

I do rem the page now, since it has an audio compressor on it, I might have downloaded a version before. I'll have to look around on CD archives.

Thanks, I greatly appreciate your help but it looks as though this one may be just too tough a task for anyone here. The compression test results at http://www.maximumcompression.com/ show 7-Zip version 3.09.01 to be quite poor when compared against several other compression programs. 7-Zip version 3.09.01 was released on September 6th 2003 so the tests are pretty much up to date. If you look on the summary page under "Best overall compression program" 7-zip is not even a contender.

First, dont give up hope. so far I am the only one who has replied to your request, there are others who might be able to find this program.

The one thing also, which I do not see mentioned on the page, is how long it took to compress the data, maybe the time is there, but I missed it.
if the time to compress is extremely long, I don't care how well something can pack a file, I am not waiting very long. Especically when packing 10 or 20,000 files. So you should also take that into consideration, the smaller and tighter the compression gets the file, the longer it has to work on the file and the slower packing your files is going to take.

in the Summary, I only see the RKC mentioned once time, while I see lots of mentions for DURILCA 0.2, what about this compression app, have you located this one? seems to even do a better job than the RKC

another thing to consider is if your distribute any of these compressed files, can others open them. I use the 7zip, since I can use it on just about any platform I operate. and the same 7zip program can unzip a wide variety of other formats, such as RAR, tarballs, zips. This way I dont have to have a bunch of other tools for every file format out there.

RKC is a non-public version, it's still in testing phase. RK 1.04.1a is an older version of the program, which is freely available, but has less compression. So, just be patient...

Have you tried contacting the authors of the testing site :

If they recently tested it presumably they have the file and may provide it however I suspect it is shareware.
I have seen an O.V. of the rk prog' but the link is dead I'm sure.
