Forget the slow, full-of-ads windows media, Real and Quicktime players ! Get Media Player Classic instead ! It's an open source clone of Windows Media Player 6.4, with more functions, it's light and great ! Using K-Lite Codec Pack (Basic or Full), Quicktime and Real Alternatives, you can read the last WMV, Real and Quicktime movies, have a light but fully fonctionnal Software DVD player, and even encode with the DivX Pro 5.1 with no ads !

Hope this helps all of you old versionners, tired like me of these "free" software that get always heavier, full of spyware and "upgrade to pro version" stuff !

    "Matroski player" ? What's that ?
I just wanted to help since I see many people here having problem with quicktime, windows media player and realone player. Every piece of software I talked about is free, so what did I do wrong ?
Anyway, if you want to delete the thread, do it, but don't tell me I made an ad since there's nothing to sell on the links I gave.

did nothing wrong, just stating it sounded like an advert for a player.
Guess was reading the posting from an audio forums perspective, which i am a member of a few of them.

I never use QT, RA, WMP myself, i just use Foobar2000 since i like to build ogg-albums, and it is the only player i have seen that can properly handle them.

    Poloploplo,
I 've just d/l Media Player Classic and tried it. I prefer it to Windows Media Player (all versions) because: small size, no need to install (perfect for a portable player at a friend's computer&#33 and there is an option for full screen view!
    Thanks for the post.

Is it also possible to view Streaming video on the web and record this with Media Player Classic?

For instance so that you can burn a real video file to a CD-R?

there has been discussions on this board about recording/capturing RealVideo, you can search for it and read it. as for re-recording a video, why? you would seriously be decreasing the quality of the video. alot of Real Video is already very poor, this is so people on 56k can view it, as well as for quickly deploying the video. If you would capture a RA video and then re encode it. it would not be worth viewing then. even the audio is extremely lacking in RA.
unless it is just a must have video, you would be better looking for a DivX encoded or Mpeg version of the video, then you would not have to re encode it.

You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5 and even WMV movies, too (without the avifile library).
