If your server doesn't support asp:
phpBB (not phpBBFM, it's too bloated for dialup users)
OR
Invision (if you like the extra features)
I prefer a GameFAQs-like board. Since GameFAQs' ASP source is not supposed to be released, many people have emulated the message boards. My own site uses the Outboards 3 source. (With edits to the source, bug/exploit fixes, enhanced moderation system, etc, so I don't look like a rip-off of OB.)
Acmlm Board is a board created by Acmlm. It is not freely availible to everyone. In fact, very few have the source. Acmlm does not release the most up-to-date version to her selected people. I have never gotten a copy of her source, and it is against her TOS to ask for one, so I can't get one.
I think the other ones are pretty well-known.

My vote: Invision Power Board
Same here SSS.
My clan has been using it for yeasrs, before they switched over to something codde personally by a clan member. The design for Invision is clean, bright, and very user friendly.
I have used Invision Power Board since the v1.1 Release Candidate 1 Release. And I agree that it has a clean interface. I am using InvisionFree to host my board, which is in my signiture.Originally posted by LKS_007@Dec 14 2003, 01:37 PM

I use Invision too: http://forums.gizmobytes.com
I use Proboards as i don't have my own server, and they are reliable.
phpBB is good if you use mods
