I am looking for the first set of tools with out the drive check.

http://www.wdc.com/en/index.asp?Language=en look through the support section for tools , if you give more info on versions etc when you make a request, as per the pinned topic, you will have far better results and more chance of getting exactly what you are requesting if it is available.

Description: I think it is the first V. but I can't be fore sure I used it four years ago.
The V. I need does not have the drive check.
So it will work on any brand of drive.

I do not believe the version # 1 would have been 4 years ago, I have a floppy disk with this utility (dldiag), and its from 1999, and the version on the floppy disk label states, Data Lifeguard Tools version 2.8. WD has been making harddrives for a long time. So can't be certain when they started shipping drives with this software.
It's generally not wise to use one hard drive manufacturers utility on a different brand.
