That was probably the version that came with your computer.

for those users in Windows XP...

WMP 6.4 is already installed along side of WMP 8...

Instead of running WMP as you normally do, whether thru the accessories/entertainment section in your start menu/programs, or desktop shortcut, etc etc etc do a start -> run command and run mplayer2.exe (file located at c:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe)

Fully functional WMP 6.4...version 6.4.09.1125 to be exact.

Hell, even WMP 5.1 is installed in windows XP...just run mplay32.exe (file located at c:\windows\system32\mplay32.exe)

hey guys i sent you this email.
    Hello,

I have just noticed that since Windows Media Player 9 has been released, Windows Media Player 7.1 English version has been taken off the Microsoft site for download. This is odd as all other language downloads are available. But anyway, some people who have 98/ME/2000 may still need 7.1 whether it's because 9.0 doesn't work or what not. (I know I had to revert back to 7.1 on my 98 drive because 9.0 ran poorly) Luckily I had a backup of the WMP install file. I have uploaded it to my personal web space and would greatly appreciate it if you added it to your WMP category. Here is the link: http://members.cox.net/jpj73/mp71.exe

    Thank you,

    Joe

I found a few more versions of WMP that OldVersion doesn't have:
    Version 5.2 (16-BIT)
    http://msdl.microsoft.com/msdownload/mplay.../en/MPSetup.exe

    Version 6.0
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads...8/mpfullx86.exe
    Info on 6.0: http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloa...yer/Default.asp

Although the links above are through MS, their Media Player download page doesn't list these versions, so I suspect that they won't be available for long. (It's probably an accident that they are available now&#33

    Also, Version 7.0: http://oldweb.pmt.org/secure/tools/MEDIAPL...PLAYER/wmp7.exe

I always use wmp 6.4 as i find that 8.0 wont let me skip to certain points on some of my wmv files so i would have to watch the whole file to find the point i want

Well, i upgraded my WMP 7 to 9, but still, WMP is better as 6.4. Luckally, WMP doesn't affect any other versions of itself, older or newer. However, file types always get affected, but nothing hard to fix.

My work PC (running Win2000) is infected with the latest version of windows media player. I came here to get version 6.4, but Win 2000 does not allow me to run the installer.

Would it be possible to offer the regular exe file for the program (mplayer2.exe)? On my home PC, I have both version 6.4, as well as the version from Win 95. I would be happy to submit them.

    Thanks for a great site!
