Be sure to have MSN 5 exited before you use Hex Workshop.
Open MSN 5's msnmsgr.exe in Hex Workshop.
Click the Edit menu, and click Replace.
Click the Type arrow, and select Text String.
In the Find box, type the version of your MSN 5. (That also include the build number, i.e 5.0.0544)
In the Replace box, type 6.2.0544. Click OK. Click Replace All. Click OK. Exit Hex Workshop. Open MSN Messenger 5. You should now be able to sign in.

    I hope this helps.
    Now we're cooking with grease.

Entirely based on your post, I just bought it. I've never used it before and know only what you said and what the page at that link you posted said. Also, when asked where I heard about it, I referenced here. Many thanks. Although I'd never use MSN Messenger, for fear of what happened to this poor guy (but yet I'm still considered paranoid by most when I speak of, at least, software), there is much value, based on what I just saw, in this program you've referenced. (My trusty Paint Shop Pro 3 that I bought years ago and that I just downloaded again the other day, thanks to this forum, is going to expire in thirty days AND the manufacturer isn't in business any more. Now I may have a chance at hacking it. ;-) )

Got anything on Paint Shop Pro or hacking tips? I'd buy it if I could, but it's looking like I'm breaking out the old hacksaw again, after nearly two decades of shelving it.

Well I looked at Syfx but he took his blog down and apparently doesn't work anymore.
I need another way to connect to MSN Messenger using Version 4.6.

The Hex Hack also does not work for some reason.
