    Mine are a little old (issued 1965 by the Army), they may have made changes, but:

    Lastname Firstname MI
    Serial Number
    Blood type
    Religion (spelled out ie. "PROTESTANT")

    All lettering was upper case.

    Someone "in the know" could look at the serial number and tell if you were a reserve officer, or a regular officer, or an enlisted man.

    Sometime around 1969-1970 they started using the Social Security number in place of a serial number. Considering that nowadays the SS no. is often used for "identity theft", I don't know if they are still displaying it.

    We also had a photo ID which included rank.

    Someone younger should update you.

    ~~~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You aroused my curiosity, so I did a little searching myself.
    I suspect that the reason you had problems getting anything specific, is that there have been a lot of changes over the years. There also seem to be some minor differences between the various branches of the services.
