The result of my test was 23.1 kbps.

I'm using an old 28.8 kbps dial-up modem for now, at least since my 56 kbps modem was fried in a recent thunderstorm.

Did you try changing the cable out? Does the cable sit next to any power cords?
What type of Ethernet card is in the win98 box?
Did you tweak the MTU and RWIN on the slower performing machine?

    Check here for a howto,

If your using a Wireless link between the 2 machines, then YES, it will be a bit slower, since the speed rating on all devices in not RealWorld performance.
If you have any Flurescent lights in the room, it can create issues with anything wireless.

Yes im aware of the light thing, this light in my room causes interference on my radio (Am band) when its on.....(Luckily,thank god, it doesnt interfere with my router connection)

I just got a NEW router seeing as my old one broke (Not even a year old.....)

My speed is: 3709.1 Kbps (3.7 megs)

Very good............... (Boy did i have a hard time getting the new s/w installed......It wouldnt work right,my firewall would not run with the drivers loaded for the new router,etc... But i think and HOPE things are ok now)
