Thread: Direct X

I've been trying to run an older pc game (Requiem: Wrath of the Avenging Angel), which requires a "minimum" of DirectX 6.0. I'm currently running 9.0b, and the repeatedly tells me that it requires 6.0, and will not boot up. Naturally, I can't (nor would I want to) downgrade to DX6. I have other old games that do the same thing, and I'm wondering; is it possible to trick the game into believing I have DX6, or maybe running off of some type of DX emulation? Since there's no longer any tech support for this game (it was originally produced by 3D0), I'm sort of stuck. Thanks.

    Dear Group,

I have unsuccessfully tried to install Direct X version 9c onto my Win 98 computer.
I get an error message something like "Unable to download - check network connection""

What is the latest version of Direct X that you guys are aware of that will successfully install on a machine running Win 98 or WIn 98 SE?

    Thanks
    David.

Hi, I don't know how to trick the PC into thinking it is running an older version or DirectX, but I could suggest picking up an older PC, (unless you already have one laying around) then installing an older OS and drivers on it to play older games. You can get older used PC for really cheap now. I have several older PC set up just for that purpose. Of course you will need more room to setup another PC, time to configure the hardware and software, etc... so it would be up to you to decide if it would be worth you while. Sorry I couldn't help on the software issue...Good luck.

    Dear Group,

I have just downloaded the DirectX 9.0c version from the Microsoft Website where it clearly states that 9.0c can be used with Windows 98.

When I try to install it (running the exe file) it will not install and I get an error like "check the network connection".
    I am not a network !

WHat is the latest version of direct X i can successfully install on a computer running Win 98

I finally uninstalled DirectX 9.0b from my computer courtesy of DirectX Eradicator, and now I am having difficulty installing DirectX 9.0a, which I downloaded from this website. After the installer loads this message appears: "An internal error has occured. Please refer to directx.log in your Windows folder to determine problem." I doubt anyone can decipher what it states in the log file, but I'll post it here, just in case:

I even went into Safe mode to try and install it, but it does the same thing. I did notice that DirectX 9.0a here on Oldversion.com is much larger (31 megs) than the one on the aforementioned website, which is (12 megs). That's considerably smaller than DirectX 8.0 and 8.1, as well! I can't find DirectX 9.0a anywhere else where I can download it, should I just d/l the it from here? Thanks.

There is a disk space error message. Do you have enough Diskspace to extract and then install the software? Also, not sure, but seeing a Japanese Language flag, is your system a japanese one? Do you require the japanese language pack?

Your gonna run into troubles using those removal tools sometimes. just install 9.0c it clears up 9.0b problems and runs just like 9.0a 9.0b had some hardware/software bugs in it (namely with certain phillips tv tuner cards and other video hardware/software issues) some have had no problems with it...
