(S)He is saying that the current version (Excel Viewer 2003) only works in 2000/XP. The version (s)he is looking for and which you quoted 97/2000) is not available for download at Microsoft's site.

Unfortunately, I don't have it either.

If you are looking for illegal/pirated/warez downloads, this is NOT the place.

If you are looking for a viewer, I have a list with links to where you can get them (see below).

    Microsoft Office viewers:
Word Viewer 2003 (also opens Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Works Word Processor files&#33
    Word 2003: XML Viewer
    Excel Viewer 2003
    PowerPoint Viewer 2003
    Visio 2003 Viewer
    Snapshot Viewer for Access 2003, 2002, 2000, and 97
    Windows Journal Viewer 1.5

    Microsoft Office viewers (old):
*** I would recommend that you only install these if you are running an older version of Windows (i.e. Windows 98 SE or Windows ME) ***
Word 97-2000 Viewer (alternative download link 1 - alternative download link 2)
Excel 97-2000 Viewer (direct download link - requires Windows 95 or higher)
PowerPoint Viewer 97 (alternative download link 1 - alternative download link 2)
    Visio 2002 Viewer

And the only Microsoft Office related viewer that Microsoft makes for the Macintosh:
PowerPoint 98 Viewer for Macintosh (alternative download link 1 - alternative download link 2)

    Misc. Microsoft viewers:
Windows Media ASF Viewer 9 Series

Anything else can be found at their FTP site: ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/

Default MS Office 2003 Viewers being discontinued

I notice you have PowerPoint Viewer 2003 & 2007 which is good!

MS is going to discontinue PowerPoint & Excel Viewers versions 2003 as stated on their download pages. I guess they are wanting it pernamently replaced with the 2007 versions. Even though the 2007 version seems backwards compatible up to 97, the file download sizes are rediculously larger (eg. 25MB for 2007 PowerPoint, or 1MB for 2003 PowerPoint Viewers... or 9MB for Excel 2003 ... 75MB for Excel 2007 Viewers... and 2003 Viewer can view anything between 97 to 2003). So I reckon we should archive/store the 2003 versions since they are still useful for many people/companies who still like to use Office 97-2003 versions.

    Thanks gaffer.

Just like I said. It already happened to 97/2000 version of MS Office Viewers. Now it's going to happen to the 2003 Viewers - being replaced by the 2008 Viewers.

It's no use giving us links to the Microsoft website. This thread is a warning of a inevitable discontinuation from the official sites. And yeah, there's some personal users sites hosting the files, but ... for how long?

So what happen to the oldversion.com archiving? We need to sort something out.

At least upgrade this forums to allow attachments.
