It's very possible that the FILE you are trying to play requires a specific version of the RealPlayer software (see below for technical information). I recommend trying RealPlayer 8, which you can get here at oldversion.com or you could get it at RealNetworks Legacy Software Archive.Originally posted by Jzao6@Jan 10 2003, 03:05 AM
Is there any way to make the G2 version work? *Once I download it and try to play a file, it notifies me that I need to download a plug in from real.com to play the file. *Then real.com gives me the NEWEST version (which I didn't want in the first place) instead of something with which I can play the G2. *I'm a computer rookie so hopefully you guys can help me out. *Any advice would be appreciated. *Thanks!
If you're at the RealNetworks Legacy Software Archive, look under the section titled Windows NT4.0 / 98 /ME / XP / 2000. Now look under Other options to find RealPlayer 8 and single click (with your left mouse button) that link. Now follow the instructions on that page.
If all else fails, the only other way is to continue to use RealOne Player.
Technical Info: Most RealPlayer files today require RealPlayer 8, however, older files may require the older versions of RealPlayer such as RealPlayer G2 or RealPlayer 7.
Here's an example of some RealPlayer files that require RealPlayer G2 or higher: WIYY 97.9 FM (98 Rock in Baltimore, MD) Twisted Tunes Archive (the top of the page is mostly MP3, the way bottom has WAV and RealPlayer files). You also might want to check out their new Twisted Tunes (MP3 format). You can visit their home page at www.98online.com
