Default Free Packet Sniffer for Amateurs

    Hello everybody!
Im searching for a freeware alternative for one of the following programs:
    http://www.tamos.com/products/netresident/
    http://www.eeye.com/html/products/Iris/index.html
I need a packet sniffer because i want to find out what data is being sent by programs when they do auto-update. I have already tried Ethereal/Wireshark, but unfortunately its too complicated for me to understand. I just want a sniffer which decodes the captured traffic as clear as possible. Thanks for help!

a suggestion i would make was try and do a little research and learn a little about what you are doing, netresident is quite a simple app to use and honestly do not think you will find anything much simpler.

Try SmartSniff v1.30 or IP sniffer.
    Both are fairly good.

Er, what are you talking about? As far as i know data interceptors have nothing to do with flooding, penetrating other computers.

You can flood ip address with packets, if you got the right sniffer

That's called DOS, (denial-of-service attack), which is illegal in most countries. So do not do it unless your doing that only on your own network.
