I use hitman pro, it's adaware, spybot, spywareblaster en some other programs in one. he also sends a report of not known spyware etc. to the main server so they can make an update and then you can get rid of them too =)

Spyware Doctor is a great spyware blocker and it has a nice interface. Other than that Microsoft Anti-Spyware is top notch, I suggest teaming them up. The only negative is that Spyware Doctor isn't free.

    Re: Armor2net personal firewall
But is it any good Locust? Ive been to the homepage and it looks fair enough, im running Zone Alarm Pro at the minute but the idea of having instant notification of unwanted apps trying to installs or access sounds like a winner to me, so if anyone can give me a comparison between the two products id be very grateful. thanks

Any good at packet filtering, Yes, most Firewalls are, packet filtering for home users is bascially very simple to accomplish.
The Armour2Net package combines the packet filtering, spyware cleaner.
Its fairly stright forward to use. If someone wants a firewall but really has no desire to learn the internals or bother configuring much on the firewall, then this app should suit ones needs well.

Do you mean the Index.dat file? or which one in particular?
If you still have an older version of Windows, you can remove any file, simply boot into DOS, and remove the file.

The bottom line is that no 1 product does it all, my experience in the PC repair business is when I get a badly infected PC in the shop is It takes at least 3-6 different products to get the PC fully cleaned. I use Spybot, AdAware, Microsoft anti spyware beta, (I hear pest patrol is excellent also) for cleaning adware, malware, spyware. I use a good antivirus of choice(Symantec) for viruses and then Last but not least a full system scan with TDS3 for trojans. I also notice that mal-ware sometimes installs itself as a windows "service" and must be shut down prior to cleaning, or it just reinstalls itself.
