It's probably always been spyware, just nobody knew of it at the time
I seem to remember running gator soon after it came out, and it wasn't spyware, to my knowledge. I could be wrong...
I can't remember all my log-ins and passwords. Too many. Brain full.
Does anyone have a non-spyware Gator? Or can anyone recommend another password-remembering program?

Hi Stan,
In that case you may be interested in looking into Roboform. You can import your Gator data to it. http://www.roboform.com/
Check this link http://www.roboform.com/gator.html#convert out before you remove Gator.
Use either Adaware 6 or Spybot S&D to clean out the rest of the mess after that. Make sure to update before you do so.
Regards,
Pieter

write down your passwords in that. if you have a desk draw, stick it in there, and lock it up.
I see all the time about how unsafe it is to write down a password. It is, if you are in an office environment, but for a home user, not as bad.
I find more problems with keeping the passwords locked inside a program, espeically one that works with IE. Due to IE track record of every time you turn around, there is some major security bug that allows malicious this and that.
there is also javascript, worms and all sort of nasty things readily available to snag passwords or log key strokes and reveal your paswords. a keystroke logger does not worry about how well a password keeping prgorams encryption is, since it snags the password before it is encrypted.
you are more likley to suffer a compromise via your own computer then having your home busted into an someone stealing your notebook with your passwords in. which I find both to fall under a rare occurance.

AI Roboform is good and is not spyware.

popping up ads, covering up ad banners on sites, etc., I went looking
for an alternative. AI Roboform was/is the answer. They offer a free
version for webpage forms, and a PRO (paid) version for the POPUP
type of logins... Shameless Plug B)
I bought into the Pro version, and I absolutely like it alot!

Even better than that robo thing is gasp! The google toolbar! Kills popups, autofills forms, blogs, and searches!
toolbar.google.com
Update on Roboform. Now I don't know if the google toolbar can do this or not... Roboform allows you to search different engines via a "passcard", and, get this, Roboform, if you highlight some text on your current page, just highlight, then move your cursor to the Roboform search box, and click once within it, a dropdown is prefilled with the text, and you can click on which engine to search! Very nifty! Roboform has many other features, click on Roboform to see the full list...

P.S. I'm not knocking the google toolbar, but I am promoting the small internet developer type... Roboform very possibly might not be able to compete with the Goog-a-rilla without folks like myself promoting them.
