hi therese, indeed i havent tried it,honestly hadnt heard of it until your post,i am later this week setting up a new box on my network so i will try it for definite,it does star highly on the link that you posted so may be a very good program.
I read in a Swedish forum about an Active Virus Shield by AOL based on Kapersky’s antivirus.
In the post there were 2 links; one for downloading the program and another one for comparison with different other AV programs.
In the rank (link 2) the Active Virus Shield looks like being as good as Kapersky’s AV, which has a good reputation.
I feel a bit uncertain. Has anyone tried Active Virus Shield?

Amazing what you can find using the "Search"

From what I read I would not use it, also the toolbar is the question for yourself do you really need toolbar or not.

installed and runs fine on my machine, the reports from dsl forums could just be a minority,if we believed everything we read that were posted by others then we really wouldnt have a lot of software to choose from.every single program ever made will have some that slate it.thats where folk go wrong, the only way to see what you think is try it yourself.

Well it seems like they changed their EULA.
It was really a bad joke a few months ago. We had discussed about it on another forum (which they changed now, so the link is dead but it's still in the Google cache)... it's in french but the quote from the EULA is in english :

Edit : Here is the new link : http://www.gratilog.net/xoops/module...d=1677&forum=2
But the color is lost.

Haven't used it but looks good Therese, a lite Kaspersky version for free even if it comes with AOL's dubious EULA suggesting they could/would data mine you if they thought it was for your own good or the good of the "software"
Typically with something free most complaints are about the lack of support,I think AOl should be ashamed(again!) that people should have to almost finish reading the very first item in the EULA before finding out that they shouldn't expect any support.
I've liked Avast in the past for its support and additional web network scanners etc and their commitment, however mostly I just use safer browsing habits and online scanners now, but will try AVS in the future if its still around.
I haven't used Kapersky’s AV but I heard some positive talk.
I've been pretty happy with free AVG.
I still prefer Norton Virus Software. It is much more effective.
