I have a win ME system. What version of QT would be best? I know it's a vague question but I'm asking. I just want something simple for web video files. One that doesn't try to load me up with a bunch of options. I had Ver 6 I think, I tried to uninstall just because of complications. The uninstall didn't work, I had to remove manually. Oh one more thing, sometimes the player worked and sometimes it went to the QT picture and did nothing. I would appreciate anyones opinion.

Every time I load OT by double-clicking on a .mov file, it will load QT, but not play a movie. This is with QT6. Since I rarely ever have to view a QT movie, can not say which would be the best for you.
I do have QT4 on my Apple, and do not seem to have any problems with it either.
Maybe you might want to consider using QT5.
Have to wait and see if any other members add some input to this thread, because I neither use QT or ME enough to wear it out much.

Thanks Alpha,

I don't use it very often but last time it loaded a movie then later on it didn't. I wouldn't bother except I do need it once in a while. I'll wait for more opinions.

I have version 5.0.2 running in Win98 worked the few times I used it
there were lots of options during the setup I choose minimal everthing & only associated it with .mov files got it from O.V. even though it says 5.5 there ?? Never tried connecting it to the net just downloaded files, only way I could get to play the cameltoe song lol
How do you extract the sound tract out of a .mov file ? tried ripping it off the sound card but have ended up with a track of my system scream'n in agony.

A?withA? :)

thats, as far as I know, not a simple thing to do. Since audio tracks can be copy protected in the mov file. Then the audio could be QT or AAC or who knows what.
you could use a program called Sound Recorder, http://www.highcriteria.com/. and play the MOV and record the audio, like the old cassette days of recording from a radio. Not the best way to do it. but possibly one of the only ways to do it.

as i search the net for a solution, i find this suggestion. which might be more involved then you want it to be.

<!--QuoteBegin--"http://forum.digital-digest.com/archive/topic/4254-1.html"

convert mov file to avi (divx preferably file) using the software supplied at divx-digest.com (check software section) and vcdhelp.com (under conversion) or a screen capture software. If all goes well, open the file in virtualdub and then save the audio only. In virtualdub you can select mp3 format for audio if you like. Adobe Premiere might be able to do this (it should be better).
MOV to AVI conversion is not perfect or always reliable.
[/quote]

as the person says, "MOV to AVI conversion is not perfect or always reliable", that is because of the copy-protection on some of the MOV files.

Seems that a file called viewer.exe was mysteriously deleted off my computer. When I try to view a jpg pic Windows cannot find it. So does anyone know where I could download this file for Quick time 5?

If that's not possible, what's the best thing to get to view pics? I'm not interested viewing movies, don't want a lot of stuff I'll never use. I have Win95. Thanks.

It most likely did not get deleted, just the association has been changed by installing something else which overwrote the association, you can try clicking on an image, then right click on it, select OPEN WITH, and when presented with the file association box to select the OPEN WITH, you can then look for whatever your preferrence is for viewing jpeg/image files.

I use Firehand Ember, http://www.firehand.com/Ember/index.html to view many pics at once, in a thumbnailed array. A close second to this app is CompuPic, http://www.photodex.com/ you might want to try this, it beats opening 1 pic at a time.
