Check with the manufacturer on what blanks the drive supports. Not all blank media works with all hardware. I have seen the power calibration error on blanks my drives did not support. Since I have gone through 3 different drives, I've had to shuffle around the blanks I used to different ones when buying a new drive.
If the older CD recorder worked fine with the blanks, and you got a new drive, and it no longer burns to those disks, it could be that the CD-rw's were slow 1-4x speed medium, and the new drive is a HighSpeed CD-rw. Which requires capable blanks.
My 2x blank CD-rw's worked fine in my 2x drive, but never worked in my 10x or 24x CD-RW drives.
Buy some supported media, and see if that solves your problem
